| This is a new, official license with Star Anvil to create new Rifts® Phase World® sourcebooks using the Rifts for Savage Worlds rules. This is NOT a Palladium Books publication, but a trusted, third party licensee, Star Anvil, who is excited to bring Phase World to the Savage Worlds game system. (Note: Palladium has its own plans for new Rifts and Phase World sourcebooks using our Megaversal rules in the coming months and years.)
Though created for Savage Worlds, the sourcebook material can be converted to Palladium’s game system, especially the expanded galactic setting information, new characters, weapons, spacecraft, and adventures. This kickstarter is a must for Rifts Savage Worlds players and Game Masters, and a fun idea and adventure generator for Palladium gamers.

| The exhibit is freakin’ awesome and how many times does a role-playing game company get recognized like this? Not often. One-of-a-kind Palladium Books negatives are always very popular items at the Palladium Open House, Gen Con, and conventions, and are catching on as rare collectibles, unique in and of themselves. Last year at Granite State Comic Con, Kevin Eastman had TMNT negatives from the first comic book on display.
Before digital printing, pages of a book were laid out by hand on a board, and each page was photographed. These are the photographic negatives being sold as individual works of art and collectibles. When matted or framed on a white background they look like dynamic wood cut prints. And they are on sale right now! |

| | | | We are NOT changing to Savage Worlds rules
Sean and I do not understand why every time we license the Rifts intellectual property (IP) to a company that uses Savage Worlds rules, some people incorrectly assume Palladium Books intends to make all future books for Savage Worlds. No. Absolutely not the case. As we keep telling you, we have big plans for Palladium’s many game settings and our Megaversal rules. In fact, you have no idea how big. The Redux edition of TMNT & Other Strangeness is just the beginning. We’ll clue you in as more exciting projects are nailed down and ready to announce.
I think part of the speculation results from the fact we have not released a lot of new products these past couple of years, but that’s mostly due to my beloved Kathy’s passing and the scope of the work involved in the Ninja Turtles Redux products (over 500 pages of full color art updates, expanded content, comprehensive core rules clarifications, dice, miniatures, and more). The new TMNT & Other Strangeness and TMNT Transdimensional Adventures full color hardcovers are the big new releases (available now – you will love them), but there’s much more coming this year. Island at the Edge of the World (Fantasy) is at the printer and other new title releases are coming this year.
I think the other part is people don’t understand how a license works. A potential licensee comes to us, makes a pitch, and offers us money to use our ideas. As the licensor, we consider whether the product makes sense, if the guy/team can pull it off and do a great job, whether it serves the fan base (in this case, the Savage Rifts fans first, and Palladium Rifts fans second), and whether it makes sense to move forward to the contract phase and development by the third party licensee.
In the case of Phase World®, Sean’s friend, Brandon, the creative force behind Star Anvil Studios, reached out a couple years ago to ask if he could license Phase World and the Three Galaxies. We didn’t ask him to use the Savage Worlds rules, that’s what he wanted to do. It was part of his pitch. He plays both Palladium and Pinnacle games and has created multiple successful books for Savage Worlds and knows the system intimately. Since he is so familiar with Savage Worlds and knew Pinnacle’s Rifts license did not include Phase World, he thought it was something that Rifts® for Savage Worlds gamers would enjoy. And like the Savage Rifts® books published by Pinnacle, gamers can easily adapt the new characters, updated setting info, and adventures to Palladium’s rules. Making it a product both fan bases can use and enjoy.
Star Anvil checked with Pinnacle first, to make sure they wouldn’t ruffle any feathers, and then hammered out a licensing contract with Palladium Books, paid the licensing fee, and went to work creating this first, big, epic Phase World setting book. We found it compelling and fun, and you will too. If this Kickstarter does well, it will be the first of several Phase World and the Three Galaxies adventure sourcebooks from Star Anvil. They have a proven record of releasing quality products so it seemed like a good fit.
Sean and I enjoy helping friends (we hope it helps!). Star Anvil products continue to introduce Rifts® and Phase World® to a new audience as well as offering value to Palladium gamers, and it gives everyone some new fun Phase World RPG source material while they wait for new books from Palladium. With any luck, Star Anvil makes some money doing this dream project and Palladium gets a royalty, so in our eyes, it is a win-win for everybody. We appreciate Star Anvil’s support and faith in our IP and wish them great success. We hope this explanation clears up any misunderstandings. So, please, check it out and, if you can, support it at some level.
Back at Palladium, we are working on a number of projects: Island at the Edge of the World (Fantasy) looks great and is at the printer, Sean is working on Rifts® Bestiary Volume Two, and a bunch of other things are in the pipeline. If all goes well, this should be an exciting year.
