The City or the State of New York? According to the main book(s)

The City of New York (Manhattan) is now known as Madhaven. There isn't much about it in the main book, but there is an entire World Book dedicated to it.

The rest of the state is basically open wilderness. Not sure if any books go into more depth.

I personally did not like Madhaven, not even a little bit. One of my most disliked books.

Some other people think it's the best thing EVAH!!!

So, opinions vary to both extremes. With out knowing you, I can't possibly say which side you come down on.

Please...I've always regarded the Big Apple as extremely dangerous. Madhaven came as no surprise.

Though perhaps we should have Worldbook Los Angeles, City of Smog to balance it? :P

I like it for the most part, only I didn't was the knights and the mutants(which honestly sucked, been better off doing a mutant with a random generator)

I love Madhaven for what it does for the game, as far as OCCs people WANT to play.

I hate Madhaven because it should have been different. But it's still a good sourcebook.

Madhaven speaks about NYC.

Spirit West talks about the state of New York and mentions some of the Native Americans who reside there. Otherwise not a lot of details.

As someone who lives in central NY I have always been interested on Palladium's take on my neck of the woods. These are the only books that I can recall.

Long House Preserve up in Central NY, crazy arrogant mutants in NYC, Ghost Rider Shemarrian Tribe also wandering around New York(it's their assigned 'territory').
Other than that, not much canon mention of what's in old New York.

Sections of the City could be Fade Towns, powered by lost artifacts from the First Time of Magic. Awaken with the New Age (the now of Rifts).

Giving us some more use of Lemuria and Undersea. Land and water vehicles from other books.
But this has nothing to do with New York.
I hate it when my mind wonders,

why not steal a move from fallout and do Rifts Las Vegas.

Truth is I would like to see a Lazlo/new Lazlo source book before they decide to have the CS utterly crush them. (yes I know there is optional material in a Rifter for Lazlo)
In closing I would like to say "Will eat for food"

Las Vegas is covered in Rifts Black Market; it's a Black Market 'free zone' for caravans and trading, though the ruins themselves are heavily haunted.

I was making a joke. Most cities the cataclysm will not be like they where before. Rather then focusing a whole world book on dead cities about fleshing out the bigger kingdoms in the main play area. In addition we need what is happing at the rift that has Larson brigade tied up.

One interesting thing is we really have not yet seen nor heard to much of what if anything lies beyond the rockies to the west yet. There are a few passing mentions of bad things TM but almost everything stops at the rockies at least for the old US portion of it I think some of the seattle area is talked about a bit in canada.

What happened TO Vegas, stays in Vegas?
I think if you pick up Rifts Black Market, there are details.

In Rifts, nothing that happens to a city tends to stay IN the city. There tends to be leakage of nastiness, mutant monsters/OCCs/RICCs.

Madhaven...enjoyed it.

Would LOVE to see an adventure book for the Detroit/Windsor area considering how many times I drove through it for work....

Unless Detroit had continued its downward economic spiral during the Golden Age of Technology, I'd imagine the city would get a MAJOR boost from the Megadamage Age economic surge, since I could see major politicking for new-tech investment, leading to interesting stuff being built there in the economic renewal.

i've never been to detroit but would gladly see a book for the region (and more southern ontario where i am from) especially with how well the region should be known since it's not too far from where palladium is based i figure they would have a lot of first hand detail going into it

i still haven't read madhaven but i am in new york now and ordered the book since it never interested me as much as others i was buying until now (also i'm still new on the boards, and nyc but been playing a long time anyone around new york brooklyn know where to find books without ordering online or possibly a gaming group at some point and want to private message me even?)
i own but am less well versed in RUE, and my memory is ... lackluster at best keep that in mind if my posts contradict canon lol

Yesa, you'll want the Madhaven book for information on NYC and Manhattan. Be warned though, Madhaven is named because it drives ALL adventurers who spend too much time there LITERALLY insane. The creators made it and equal opporutnity F.U. which is interesting, but not my "cuppa tea". The cover artwork was EXCELLENT though!

I don't dislike the book. Just found the origin of the psychic imprint that drives people insane lacking. That would mean any area like New York or Moscow or a similar city would have such a psychic imprint. As well the whole were mutants not humans and human are inferior attitiude from the denizens of Madhaven annoying. Other than that a decent book.

London's essentially a Splugorth encampment; maybe they were drawn by a delicious aura of Old World evil there lacking in New York?

I believe Moscow's a crater in Rifts. Beijing's probably a demon city. so who can tell what the psychic imprint is under all that more recent malicious chi?

With the rising Sea levels Seattle likely didn't do very well.

I'd like to see what happened to the entire west coast though. It's been 'hands off' from the start of Rifts, and for decades I've been waiting to see the amazing ideas that Kevin had for out there.

So far, still waiting.
