I chose neither.

Personally, I would go for the strange vocalizations of Sharon Apple - that haunting-techno is great!

I love the battle sceans that go with the music, so I will stick with what I gave. And yes, nice song, but IMO not as good as the other two, but it is a note worthy song never the less.

How did Macross Minmay's DYRL not make it to the list? That's a classic... so much so they had to do a cover of it for Macross Frontier.

All the same, I voted for Sheryl and Ranka's "Nyan Nyan Service Medley" from the final episode of Macross Frontier. (Yes, that is the real track name according to the OSTs). I like a lot of the songs that make it up, like "Lion", "Diamond Crevasse", and "Sagittarius @ 9PM ~ Don't Be Late".

It's not a fair comparison.

IMHO, the biggest strength of Do You Remember Love was that it wasn't My Boyfriend is a Pilot or Shao Pai Lung. The final battle between the SDF and the Zentran Armada deserved something special in its sound track, and the original Macross TV episode failed to deliver. In that regard, We Will Win was an improvement over the original episode. Was it an improvement over DYRL? I don't know; each had its own strengths. Really, I would have preferred something in between the extremes of We Will Win's "we're fighting for lives, here!" and DYRL's "aw, gee; how sweet..."

Granted, "Love Drifts Away" wasn't exactly the best possible fit for that situation, but I think still fits better with the story as a whole. The whole point was confusing the Zentradi with sentiments and emotions foreign to their totally combat-oriented mindset. "We Will Win" doesn't exactly fit the bill, since it basically boils down to "We're motivated and we're going to beat your a**", a sentiment I'm sure the Zentradi could understand all too well being bred for war and all that...

I absolutely love DYRL because it fits perfectly with the theme and story of DYRL (and the original series), and it's just a fantastic love song... then again I'm a sucker for a good love song, so I might be ever-so-slightly biased. ;)

Like I said, I would have preferred something in the middle - with enough energy in it to be a plausible motivational song for Macross' forces, but with enough sentimentalism to confuse their enemies. More of a "celebration of life" type of song than a battle anthem or love ballad.

Besides, song was foreign to the Zentradi's totally combat-oriented mindset: as long as she didn't go with gangster rap or heavy metal, I'm pretty sure that anything that Minmei had sung would have distracted them - and even those might have.

Of the two song purposed I like the MF one better.

However, there are a few more that I like better

Voices by Muyn, M+
Stand Up, The Sky is Falling by Yellow Danger, RoboTech Perfect Collection (I like the YD version of We Will Win better too.)
Banana Moon by (L.M. look alike), M2
love you again by Ishtar, M2
Love, Do You Remember? by Mylene Jenius, M7 (I like the LM song sung by MJ better then when they were sung by LM, so sue me)
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

You take all the fun outta life. :D I personally like Sheryl & Ranka's singing over that of Minmei's, but I prefer the songs from the BGC soundtrack over ALL of them as "Best Battle Songs". I, too, have listened to the english versions of the BGC songs and find that much was lost in translation, namely the flow of the lyrics didn't fit anymore. Besides you didn't say we couldn't post our ideas of good battle songs if we didn't like the options presented to us.

Those are all very good choices. The original BGCrisis and BGCrash was the first anime series, after RT sentinels (yes, they did make the opening episode) and Clash of the bionoids (1st US translation of 'Love, Do you remember'), that I bought.
The One thing I loved best was that the opening themes were all different. (as in there was not any set opening animation like with most animation and TV shows.

However, I limited myself to the macross family of shows.

Most japanese songs translated and sung in english are horrible.
Example: in M2, ishtar's song in the last episode in the us realese.

An example of a good song translation to english would be Washu's Lullaby.

Heh. :) Seeing this in a Robotech topic reminds me of an RPG setting/campaign that I came up with shortly after first seeing BGC, when Robotech was still fresh on my mind: a multi-generational mecha genre mash-up that started with cyberpunk, transitioned through military sci-fi to post-apocalyptic techno-fantasy, and ended up in full-blown space opera. Four eras, spaced in roughly twenty-year intervals, each with its own look and feel: first era took its inspiration from the original BGC (not the Tokyo Pop version that came out later); second era drew inspiration from what SDC:SC aspired to be, but didn't quite manage; third era drew in part from Genesis Climber Mospeada and partly from Genesis Survivor Gaiarth; and the fourth era drew its aesthetics from SDF:Macross and its concept from Robotech:Sentinels. One of these days, I'm gonna run it.

Cpop most be given their props for making head ways in this area as well. I hope to hear more music from them in the future. Jpop will always be awesome, though, the question I present here, is a quandary in reflection to the 2010 music results and impact the Kpop has accomplished.

Given how we see and hear in Macross Frontier a bunch of memorable and wonderful duets of Sheryl and Ranka together, and even further back when the Mylene does Minmay soundtrack, . . . is the next musical aspect in the next installment going to be a female music group? :?:

That is true. I sort of figured that since we had Lynn Minmay, who represents music, versus no music. Then, we had Wendy Ryder, who represented music without purpose, versus Ishtar, who represented music with purpose. And then, we had Myung Fang Lone, who represented the inner voice, versus Sharon Apple, who represented the outer voice. Next, we had Fire Bomber, a rock band that represented the alternative version of music, with Mylene Flare Jenius as the idol singer, who represented the pop version of music, versus the emptiness of silence. In our current theme, we have Sheryl Nome, who represents the singing professionalism, teamed up with Ranka Lee, who represents the singing amateurism, versus the system of the soul that is in Alto Saotome. So now, I get the notion that the next musical inspiration will come from a female group for the next installment for the Macross Family. Though, I'm not sure what opposite would best fit with the group format.

Wow, that's kind of on the deep side. IMO anyways.

Flare Jenius took battle music to a wholly new (and stupid) level when he started shooting his enemies with speakers and sing at them until they got annoyed and left. I didn't mind the singing but the shooting speakers at his foes to get his song across was a little much for me.

Sorry. Sometimes I do that, when it comes to music.

Sorry, I should have said that that wow was in a good way. And it was. So I did not mind it at all. I know I would have never picked that out about the songs.

Non-Macross song? :?: Please explain.

Simple. It is not a song from ANY of the Macross shows(RT or JN MAcross) it's just pure rock'n'roll! What you've never heard of AC/DC? What cave have you been living in? :D
How's about Daft Punk's "Derezzed" from Tron?

Won't that mean we're only able to select songs from the Macross soundtracks?

Considering the OP has an option for a "song from Robotech", I am not sure why one would think they are limited to Macross soundtracks...

I choose those songs because they were great songs IMO, and seemed to go well with the battle theams that were going on at the time. I might have been a little to limited in the choices, now that I have seen what has been posted. I do plan on doing another one of these in the future with a lot more choices. But for now, lets keep it to the Macross and Robotech families please.

I would agree that the songs from Macross Plus are better, esp. the Sharon Apple tunes.
To list them in order of preference 1st) Sharon Apple, 2nd) Sheryl & Ranka, Dead Last) ANYTHING by Minmei.
I did go outside Macross by suggesting the Bubblegum Crisis songs, but not outside anime songs in general.
I leave it up to the Judge (the Original Poster) as to wether this is valid or not. :D

I think Lancer's Performance in Big apple is 100x better then any Crap from the Macross shows.

I don't mind the mentionin of other songs, expessily anime songs here, as long as it don't go to far off topic. And hay, I think the original Bubblegum Crisis songs were great too, though I prefore the english verson of them. Don't get the wrong ideal, there are several Japanse theme songs that I love, like Ranka and Sherie's song that I have in this post, a couple of the Bleach and Naruto openings, and both Ah! My Goddess opening, just to name some.
