ExoMorph can mimic mutants as templates??

The character can adopt the appearance and functions of alien life forms.
The character can simply adopt the form and natural abilities of an alien life form by touching the being for 15 seconds. That species will then be able to be mimicked at any time in the future. The character modifies his natural abilities to that of the new species, but cannot gain the equivalent superhuman powers or psionic abilities of that species unless they are particularly integral to the race.
The character can also become any particular alien type on the alien shape chart, with the exception of plant insect and mineral types which remain unavailable until 5th level.(and even then count as 2 slots)
The character is limited to memorising a number of templates. Half his IQ, plus 1 per level after the first. If he fills up these templates, then he must drop one to pick up another. He needs one template slot free to be able to spontaneously become another species. He gains no skills from the change (unless integral to the alien’s biology) but curiously learns the language of the new creature.
(EG: Johnny Morph has an IQ of 12 and is 4th level. He has 9 templates. Of these he has Atorian, Elf, Neanderthal and Bacharus stored. Because he has slots free, he may decide at a moments notice, to simply become a ‘ape like alien’ on the spot and adjust his template accordingly.)
Other bonuses: +10

Can a Hero use this power to mimic 9 different mutants to save as 9 templates?? For example he mimic 8 of the X-men's powers!! Leaves one slot open to quickly change powers.

Individual mutants are not a species. also refer to bolded text.

Then how are mutants classified? Are they considered altered humans?

technically a mutant is any organism that is born with genetics that cannot be found in either parent. That makes them human (even in a genre where that change means crimson beams of laser light from your navel, rather than, say, cystic fibrosis)

I wonder how established a mutation has to be and how diverse before it becomes classified as a new species.

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

The 'generic' description would probably be when they can't breed with the parent species anymore and produce viable offspring, otherwise they're more 'breeds' of humans then species.

Given there are species that can interbreed yet are still considered different species rather than different breeds of the same species that doesn't seem a viable distinction. Wolves and Dogs are considered different species for example yet clearly can interbreed.

Both dogs and wolves are "Canis Lupus" with dogs then being the subspecies "C. l. familiaris".

The cause/creation of mutants can greatly vary, and thus the species...

Was the mutant born with his powers and they were activated at puberty?
Did she gain the ability to lift semi's due to contact with a glowing green rock from space?
Is the mutants ability to see the unseen due to a traumatic experience during a visit to a haunted asylum?

Ohh, I just remembered that Nightbanes can also be greatly vary too!! Because they are a race of a thousand faces, and that makes them a species too!! Cool thanks for the idea of what is considered a species, or RCC.
