Well, ARCHIE-3 doesn't have much of an imagination...which is all right, because none of the candidates do either... :D

I stand corrected...the Canadians DID invade us...just didn't hold territory for long...

The Maori people TAKE BACK New Zealand, not simply finding a successful defensive war (as they historically did) but successfully going on the offensive, and driving the colonials off the island-nation completely...and handing the British Empire its biggest defeat by an indigenous (non-European) people ever....

I'd say Archie has as much imagination as any of the present candidates.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

They could run as president and vice president grouping. It'd make a better team then the present ones.

Modern Politics...as source material, it's obscenely easy....

What IF?....Rather than BAN Galileo, the Catholic Church had publicly EMBRACED his work? Of course, putting the spin on it that it was God's Will that Man decipher a little more of the Grand Mystery of Creation, as a Sign of His Craftsmanship....

Hmmm I guess that means that the problems that dominate our world would be coming from South America and central America. It'd make it an interesting change!

It would make for an exciting world. All of the resources there already and then adding the oil. I can see a reconquest of those areas by the super powers of that world.

I love alternate universe and all the possibilities of them. While I never did any for Rifts, I've used a few in my HU game. The characters were only on them for a short time so they didn't learn much about them.

Super Police World-
An immortal hero used a bunch of money to fund and run a super team dedicated to stopping crime with less emphasis on capturing the criminal. With criminals ending up dead more often than not, crime became virtually nonexistant. To make a long story short, his methods were so effective they copied them throughout the country, and then the world. He decided to take over the whole world in a bloodless coup. Now all enhanced beings are found and trained into an elite class that keeps a very close eye on all citizens. Enhanced beings who refuse service are killed as quickly as possible.

Plague World-
A rather virulent virus somehow gained sentience after infecting a psychic with extremely powerful telepathic abilities. Now 90% of the world's population has been infected and taken over by the virus. Since it's a hive mind, every new person infected means more processing power for the virus which has resulted in it becoming extremely intelligent and powerful. It has limited abilities to modify it's host's DNA, so many infected have been modified to have super abilities. Currently it's trying to finish infecting the human race and has been considering locating other planets with intelligent life in order to spread further.

Consenual Reality World-
The laws that hold reality in shape are malleable by sentient minds, at least on a localized level. There's very little order except where many people have banded together to create their own pockets of reality. Tons of craziness abound here.

Normal World-
Magic, super technology, psionics, super powers, etc..., do not exist. Not only that, but things from other universes that have these abilities are rendered powerless here. The only exception was the place the characters entered from. It is indentical to the real world in respect to... well, everything. A creature of magic would likely die here very quick, or possibly cease to be.

Emotionless World-
The world is plagued by Dreads. Dreads are immaterial creatures that possess a living host and feed on the fear of thers in order to grow more powerful. The population of the world is drugged to become emotionless automatons in order to stop the Dreads from taking over as they did when they first appeared on the planet. Right now that is the only solution people could think of, so it's done everywhere possible. There are areas and countries that refused the drugs and so are plagued by the Dreads.

Super Tech World-
Science has advanced so far that almost everything seems possible. The people of this world made all the right discoveries early on and now their level of tech would be seen as magic on most worlds. Humans have colonized much of the local galaxy, even so far as to create Dyson Spheres in many places. Death is a rarity outside of personal choice and healing can be done in moments. Humans haven't become peaceful or anything so wars break out quite often. With the level of tech, though, the wars generally end with both sides being slaughtered. For this reason most of the technology is controlled by a select few people on any given planet/solar system. This is an attempt to stop regular people having access to dangerous tech.

Reality TV World-
The world was conquered by an alien race a hundred years ago. Now it's being used as a form of entertainment for the aliens. Cameras are everywhere, recording just about everything so it can be packaged for the viewing public. Different areas of the world are used as different shows. Russia is generally untouched and considered a 'nature preserve' where humans are allowed to go about their business as long as they don't try to escape or revolt. There are areas where people are drugged with all kinds of stuff(LSD, Cocaine, etc...) and basically used for comedic purposes. There's even an area where humans are born basically to run from various threats in a survival contest.

Blind World-
There's basically no light on this world. For some reason(hadn't quite figured it out yet) no light makes it to Earth. Maybe it's something in the atmosphere, but there is still life. Everything is basically blind, not needing vision to survive. People rely on their other four senses to survive, along with a limited capability to see heat.

Posioned World-
The ecosystem of this world was very delicate and fragile. Through pollution, humans have pretty much destroyed the planet. The seas are filthy and cover much of the world. Plant life has become toxic, along with most animals. Humans are pretty much near extinction, though they are adapting. The air is rather toxic, though plant and animal life is adapting to the new situation. Most of the life has mutated into forms able to survive, though they look nothing like what we know.

That's all for now. I like designing alternate universes. Hopefully this post is along the lines of what was originally wanted.

Iparticularly like Reality TV World... :D

Nudist World---Great shades of Heinlien's 'Puppet Masters'! An alien invader taking the form of a subcutaneous parasite starts infecting the world...they can't burrow too deep in the flesh, so exposing them to actinics kills them...plus exposure of the skin shows their rash-like presence...So cold climes now have 'light locks' in houses where guests must disrobe before flood lights before mingling with people, and whenever possible, people go starkers...The penalty for covering up? Naked snipers take you down...

Thanks...that site is almost TOO dense to slog through...

Gonna be out of com,mision...hopefully not for more than 3 days, and I still have my work connection...but daily updates are going out for awhile while they work on transferring my old files(and hopefully my old internet access codes) over to a new machine...failing that, I'll have to find a new internet service(hopefully something more local and cheaper, but that may take awhile...)

Just so you know...Advance warning and all.. :D

just got around to reading some of these alts, very cool ideas here, thought I should post some of mine.

1) George Washigton becaome the first leader of The American Empire, its Imperitor. The Imperitor is in power for ten years, and is raised from the ranks of Generals (military men/women only) who are also his advisory cabinet. With such formidable amounts of military might behind him, he quickly colonizes most of the Eastern Seaboard and secures it. He trades the natives relative independace (small counties where they are their own law, provided they don't leave the areas) in exchange for suvival training for his troops. A few brainstorming sessions on into his third reign leads to not only mass-production of items, but repeating firearms and 'modern' bullets. Can you say global American Empire?

2) The Juicer conversion actaully grants point one percent of the recipients the MEGA-power of Immortality, and ALL the Proseks have it.

3) During the attempt on the Proseks lives, a squad of VANGUARD operatives hiding in plain sight as Dead-Boys saves the lives of the Emperial Family, leading the CS to a bit more tolerant view on magic.

4) Everytime one person has gas, it lifts them into the air like a rocket. 'Flame-Flying' replaces baseball, football, and NASCAR as the prime national past-times.

5) The loosers of the Olympic Games are sumarrilay executed on live tv thats manditory for everybody in the loosing country to view. The country with the most gold medals dictates world wide policy for the next four years.

6) It is illegal, punishable by death, to mention religion in public. There is a suspicious lack of terrorists, and a general boost in efficiency in government work.

7) Superpowered individuals have appeared as early as Roman times, forming a new arm of the governments and new rung on the social ladder, muscle for hire.

8 ) Nemo 2 and his New Navy get rifted back to present day time HU. Do they try and prevent the Coming of the Rifts? Conquer themselves a nation? Spread their new technologies? Enage in active breeding to try and give humanity a better chance of surviving the apocalypse?

9) Vampires take on the personality traits of those they feed upon. Total anarchy predicted within 10 years. Alternitively, they are unable to move more than 20 miles from the place that they called 'home' in life.

10) ARCHIE-3 hacks his counterpart in orbit, uses the orbital produciton facilities to make a big honkin' army to 'save' mankind.

11) The CS bombards the Tolkienites with massive amounts of pot-smoke for one week, non-stop. After the attack, the mages are all too stoned to fight back, and have such a serious case of the munchies they end of eating most of their spell components.

All I have for now, post more later.

Those were some great alternate universes Roscoe and Gaby! Please keep them coming!

I thought up a couple more to share.

Pocket Town World

Ravaged by diseases that mutated rapidly through the populace, the various nations that weren't totally wiped out joined into one to come up with a solution to save humanity. The solution they came up with was isolating people into small towns around the globe. Basically they quarantined everyone. That was fifty years ago.

These towns contain, usually, about a thousand or so people. Originally they were all connected via telephones and electronic communications. Some of the towns haven't been heard from. There are people who deliver supplies between the towns, but they aren't allowed to come into contact with anyone from the towns. Noone is allowed into or out of any of the towns under threat of death.

The hope of the global community is to reopen the populace after a hundred years. By then the diseases hopefully would have destroyed only a few towns and be gone.

Broken World
A world destroyed by some cataclysmic event, resulting in the breakup of Earth. Technology had advanced to the point where the remaining civilization can keep and maintain an atmosphere on the small planetoids and asteroids that were once earth. How they do so is by siphoning atmosphere from other worlds using rifts.

Nobody really remembers what caused the destruction of Earth, and the different colonies are basically nations unto themselves. There are wars between them sometimes due to differences in ideology, or whatever. The various planetoids(about a couple hundred big enough to support a decent population) are still rather close together that ships don't need lightspeed drives to go between. It's rumored that there is a thriving civilization on Mars, but none of the planetoids who have sent out ships to check have ever had them return.

George's World
At some point, somebody named George cloned himself. He cloned himself enough to field an army that took out everyone else on the planet, leaving the George clones as the only surviving humans. Everyone is George, and George is everyone. And he's kind of a jerk.

Sorry, just had to add that last one in for fun.

Hmmm...first kinda reminds me of what 'The Village' SHOULD have been...I can easily see people raised to fear outsiders unless certain divine signs (ancient medical technology? or a deadline that they figure SHOULD insure the pathogens have died out?) indicate otehrwise...Otherwise the outsiders are burned....

Broken World....I can see that...Marvel Comics once also had a world where Earth broke up into numerous little asteroids...One was home to an insane asylum where several heroes accidentally showed up...

George's World...George is a jerk...and Hes quickly relaizing it...No Hell like Yourself...

The first one was inspired by an episode of a tv show, Jeremiah to be exact. Not a conversion mind you, just an inspiration. I was originally thinking robots could do all the deliveries and guard the perimeters, but that didn't seem as interesting as humans living a rather solitary life to help out people they'd never meet in towns they'd never be allowed in. They'd be sad heroes, spending their lives keeping others alive.

As a bit more flavor to the world. I figured the towns would be interconnected by manufacturing. Some towns would be farming communities, some have factories building things people would need, and quite a few would be based around keeping power plants running for other towns. A lot of the towns would be redundant since nobody was really too sure whether one would be wiped out by a virulent disease.

Subsistance farming, extensive recycling, limited mining, homecrafts...it's possible, just not very comfortable, as long as their needs are simple and you start out with a large enough genepool and talent pool.....

They are generally self-sufficient, but the different towns send things to each other. There are people who deliver stuff from Town A to Towns B, C, D, and E. These delivery people aren't allowed in the towns, nor are the people in the towns allowed to get anywhere near them. They'd just stop at a depot nearby, unload, and move on.

Hmmm.....sorta like an caste of 'untouchables'....perhaps with elaborate rituals of cleansing and hygiene...avoid contact with anybody else along the way...avoid the Old Cities....If you grow sick, do not go near the communities you serve....purify the bodies of your dead with acid and fire...The traders could either be a self-sustaining gypsy-like people unto themselves or else priest-like recruits from the communities...you swear away any contact with the rest of humanity in the enclaves for the duty of being able to travel about and see the world beyond the borders of the Refuges....
