Legendary/Mythical Heroes and their Legendary Weapons

Unread post by LostOne »

A player I know had an interesting basic idea for a hero.

A hero based on a legendary/mythical hero with their just as famous weapon. But he was hoping for more options to base it on and the only two we can think of are:
Arthur and Excalibur
Thor and Mjolnir

Can anyone think of any others? I'm sure there would be a ton in history throughout Europe, Asia, Africa.

The Tuathe de Danaan had numerous weapons attributed to them, as did other Norse gods besides Thor. Odin used a stave weapon with magical properties.

Link to a list of enchanted objects (and their owners) from Norse and Teutonic mythology...

Link to a list of Greek mythological characters. Some (but not all) list their weapons...

Link to the Wikipedia entry for Hindu mythological weapons...

This was just from doing a quick Google search for "______ mythology characters weapons" (insert whatever mythology you're looking for into the blank). I'm sure there are others out there, but you get the idea.

And if all else fails, go take a look at Rifts Conversion Book 2: Pantheons of the Megaverse. :D

That's only half-joking. The fun part of the Spear of Destiny is that you can put it in just about anyone's hands.

But yeah, if you look hard at just about any deity/mythic figure, you can associate a weapon with them. John Henry and his hammer, for example. It's all in how picky you want to get. The 'named' weapons are a little harder to come by, but there's still a bunch of them out there.

You could also go the other way and say Lucifer and his Pitchfork...

Eros and his Bow and Arrow
Surter and his Sword (one of which I find eternally fascinating)

I actually created a Love Bolts power based on the Eros thing.

You got thwacked because Mr T has no place here. ;)
The commercial was funny, but Vernes and Shatners were both better. Mr T has always been an overactor and his voice irritates me.

No, Mr T has no place here, because his mohawk is not a weapon (that I am aware of).
I realized as soon as I posted that I should have included Shatner in the overacting bit, but in any case, I think Mr T overacts even more than Shatner, because on some level Shatner can act, whereas Mr T never really had that talent.

You know, I think I'm going to create a villain based on Mr. T in your honor... complete with W.P. Chain (for the bling that hangs around his neck) and a quill-firing bionic mohawk.

Or maybe make that mohawk some sort of symbiote...

I did, it seems my googlefu was not strong in this case. I kept getting hits for video games like Fable, Final Fantasy, etc.

Then do what I did earlier on in the thread and search for "______ mythology characters weapons" -- just fill in the blank with whatever mythology you want.

Well, that depends...

Do you dance whene'er you're able?
Do you do routines and chorus scenes with footwork impeccable?
Do you dine well in Camelot, eating ham and spam and jam a lot?
