Shadow Chronicles RPG should include stuff from Prelude

Unread post by Rabid Southern Cross Fan »

Ok,

since The Shadow Chronicles is a rather sparse 'epic' (being the pilot to a series essentially), I think Palladium is going to have to dig up some stuff to add to the basic game if it wants people to get enough bang for their buck. This would negate them having to over rely upon stuff that will go into The Invid Invasion book for material. As much as I thought it was a waste of paper, Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles offers enough extra 'goodies' to satisfy.

Humans
Super Shadow Fighter
Synchro-cannon Beta
Zentraedi Battloid (misnamed Zentraedi Bioroid)
VR-052F & VR-052T Battler Cyclones
Vince Grant's Cyclone (Devastator maybe?)
'Battle Buggy' (Veritech?) Jeep
Gallant H-90
Owen's 'Mob Gun' (Wolfe 'Staple Gun' blaster & rifle components)
Cyclone Heavy Blaster Rifle (for lack of a better term)
CBA-5M Combat Battle Armor
Military Police Riot Armor
Hostile Environment Armor
CVR-3M & CVR-3F Cyclone Body Armor
Haydonite-style Spacesuit
UEEF Deuce-and-a-half (for lack of a better term)
Icarus-subclass Battlecruiser
Shimakaze-class Battlecruiser (the one without the Synchro-cannon)
SDF-03 'Trojan Horse' Exoskeleton
SDF-03 Pioneer Pre-Refit (should resemble a Tristar or old Tokugawa)
SDF-03 Pioneer Shadow Dimensional Fortress (Post-Refit)
SDF-04 Liberator
Crusader-class Dropship
Horizon V Combat Troop Shuttle
'Garfish'-class Cruiser (w/Synchro-cannon or 'Deukalion' Science Vessel)
'Ikazuchi'-class Carrier
Tokugawa-class Battleship (post 2043 Refit)
Space Pod from The Sentinels (Louie pilots one in an issue)
Space Station Liberty
Moon Base ALuCE

Forces of the Invid Regent
The Invid Regent
Invid Shocktrooper (Regent Modified)
Invid Protector Guard (Regent Modified)
Inorganics (Crann and Odeon)
Invid Overlord Veritech
Scorpion Warship

Force of the Haydonites
Haydonite
Haydonite Veritech
Haydonite Warship
The Awareness

Thats about all I can remember at the moment...I'm sure I forgot stuff. Anyway, that list should give Palladium a decent chunk of stuff to work with that wont interfere with later books so people won't feel jipped.

Also add to that list the new version of the TREAD booster the Alphas are using. Those obviously weren't Betas linked to them because, 1) there were no co-pilots/navigators on-board them, and 2) when those Alphas were shot down on Optera it was obvious that it was the Alpha that was shot up, not the Beta. Since the pilot was wearing environmental armor, they should have been able to eject the Alpha, walk back to the Beta, and fly the Beta back to orbit. That they didn't even try says to me that those weren't Betas at all, but an unpilotable booster unit, like the original TREAD.

I think that adding those books to be included in the RPG would be considered seriously. Since they start several threads on it.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

You should be able to pick it up at some local comic shop.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

I will always go for deck plans. I always enjoy those for placing players in areas you'd have to guess at.

That is true too Adeptus. It would be nice for games set in that situation.

All the Invid things from the first part of the movie should be shown as well, for completeness.

Am I watching it wrong, or do the clamshell carriers in the movie have a lot more scouts than the stated number from the old sourcebooks?

I think having maps in the core book is not a good suggestion. The book is going to be rather small, and the images are not very large. BUT - it is possible to get some high res PDF's of the maps you want, even if it is just Fan Created stuff.

We have to hope that they'll stick with their original plans on the books size of RUE. That would be the perfect size for the first book. It perfectly fine to be manga style at that size.

Add to above list: Chimera-class (or is it Battle-class?) destroyer..Rick Hunter uses one to get to the SDF-3 after it's hit by the Invid Scorpion covering Edwards' escape....

No, thats a Tristar. The Battle (or Ardennes)-class are the Battlecruisers seen here. You can tell them mostly by the sponson launch bays and the quad engines (twin sets on each sponson).

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m77/ ... iser03.jpg

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m77/ ... nsport.jpg

Tristar's on the other hand, are bigger, more heavily armed/armoured and have a cruciform-pattern reaction engine block.

As for including them, that would probably be a bad idea. They really deserve to be in the Southern Cross book and Pioneer Mission book (since the UEDF and UEEF utilize them). Unlike the refit Tokugawa, they are not a new vessel, but an older model. If you include too much stuff that appears in other books you run the risk of losing sales of those books (believe it or not). Palladium has to be careful not to be seen as having tons of copy/paste. Thats why I left the Shadow Drone, regular Alpha, Beta and other mecha that should only be in an Invid Invasion book.

Gotcha...and likewise thanks...I used to have such a hard time finding good pictures of the Southern Cross ships(and was bitterly disappointed overall with Palladium for not including them and better illos of much of the Southern Cross gear...)...I always thought they'd make good amphibious-capable spacecraft, after the rules for submersible Zentraedi ships... :D

Well, according to the chat during Chris Meadow's Podcast with Tommy and Kevin, the Veritech 'Dunebuggy' is called the Hurricane. So....

LRV-1 Hurricane (?), unless someone can come up with a better designation.

The Mortar Scout and the Grappler are in the B-Club Artmic Design Works. The biggest revelation for me was the Ground Attack Legioss Roger uncovered.

On the Haydonite front I would say what needs to be included are:
*Haydonite Mecha (the insect like creations that tried to retrieve Janice)
*Haydonite Flyer (their wing shaped fighters)
*Haydonite Cruiser (two engine warships)
*Haydonite Command Cruiser (this one appeared to possess four engines and seems to also possess that massive multi-ray cannon as well as disruptor weapon)

I know that it would seem like a ripoff from the new Battlestar Galactica but I wouldnt mind seeing something like the nBSG Centurions among the Haydonites arsenal. And yes I know we saw nothing like that on Shadow Chronicles but I can't see the ordinary Haydonites being good soldiers, best leave that to specifically designed units for combat operations.

Might as well. Didn't the attack at Liberty seem kinda new-BSGish already? ;) It reminded me completely of the 2003 miniseries, when the eye-lights on the Cylon fighters flared up, and suddenly all the Colonial fighters went dead. ;)

I actually got a good laugh from that, considering that I'm a huge fan of the new BSG ;)

Indeed, and Janice with her holographic skin makes me think of the Human Cylon infiltrators :D they are just missing the large ship with an organic core and massive barrages of missiles but I suppose the command cruiser with its super multi-beam blast can match that hehe.

And I hope so also Aramanthus.

Wonder if her spine starts glowing if she gets into bed with someone. But then, most of them know who and what she is... The big question I have about the holographic skin and such is what else she might have, especially if she's a mole with Haydonite programming directives that can be activated. A bio-emulator that could mimic different organic life signs, or such, could prove especially nasty.

I could almost even think of the first one she'd try to pin suspicion on, with such a setup. Even if Grant and Nichols trust her, and Reinhardt has accepted her as part of the mission, it would be easy as all heck to ignite crew suspicion about Ariel, considering who and what she's known to be. Probably everyone there lost friends or family during the wars with the Invid.

As to the Galactica angle?

As to the Galactica angle?

We use their own imaginations against them...I have recently acquired a file of video entertainment from one of their technicians...In it is a most interesting little story...and a plot so pererposterous that if the humans got wind of something similar happening in reality, they would dismiss it as a mere fiction..."

To finish the Galactica angle, perhaps we need a second in command who drinks a lot like Colonel Tigh :p

Also, you mention the Haydonite Wraith; I'm assuming thats the name given in the Art of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles book right? Are there any other Haydonite designs in it? If not then I guess there is some freedom for some new designs to grace such a new book as the Haydonites are currently lacking until Shadow Rising comes out.

Well, until more info onm the Haydopnites and their tactics emerge, that's a big hole...Are they going to continue being sneaky, maybe deploying Janice-like simulagents to infiltrate their enemies, use jammers, and other info-war, or, having their cover been effectively blown, are they coming to come out in the open and attack openly with a traditional attack fleet and lots of mecha(and maybe more Shadowtech permutations)?

Yes, I agree the Hatdonites definately need to be opened for the GM examination and use. Those are key topics along with the other thing that the other people have posted.

If I'm not mistaken, yes. The Haydonite carrier artwork mentioned a certain Wraith mecha bays ... since Haydonite four legged mecha is already known as Infiltrator, the main Haydonite blade flyer is certainly Wraith.

All I'm going to say tonight is that I'm looking forward to seeing what PB will release with the first release.

Makes me wonder if the Haydonite naming convention will revolve around appartitions like Ghosts, Phantoms, Revenant etc etc mind you the mecha is called Infiltrator so that might not be the case :o

Ah, what other stuff from teh previous series would you like to see?(let's set the dang copyrights aside and just dream for a moment)
I dunno, if the Hyadonites attack Earth(trying to get again at Janice, the Ark Angel, and maybe Ariel), I 'd rather like to see some reconditioned Southern Cross stuff rush to the defense as part of the local air defense....stuff that survived the Invid Occupation...even a passing cameo by heavy-modified AJACs and Logans to give them one last blast of glory would be a nice touch IMHO...

Probably wouldnt see it but I would like to see some lost Zentraedi fleet running around serving as a type of raider that attacks anyone in order to gain some protoculture for their dying shis :D like an REF fleet is trapped inbetween an approaching Haydonite fleet and a Zentraedi raider force

If Robotech ShadowWar turns into something like 'Robotech Voyager' or the last arc of Babylon 5, we may have the Ark Angel stumbling across 'strange new worlds'while searching for the SDF-3....some of which may hopefully have references/links to the older storylines(i.e., maybe by that time they'll have gotten title to the Zentraedi again...or else substantially designed them into soem renegade form)...Imagine the SDF-3 in the clutches of Zentraedi who have gone 'feral' or maybe set themselves up as e,perors/empresses of some 20th-century tech world...

Then again, the Hyadonites might be picking off straggling and struggling Zentraedi remanents....
