The Nazis of Venus
So, Transdimensional TMNT had it that, when the solar system was being divided up, the Empire of Humanity demanded to be allowed to settle Venus... which was fine, because no one else had wanted to settle Venus. Apparently, in later twists, they'd managed to change the color of the planet a bit, but no one was investigating what was going on.
So, what were the Nazis of Venus doing? Was it aerostats? Were they terraforming the surface? Anyone have any thoughts on what a group of mutants would find if they were to reconnoiter Venus?

Re: The Nazis of Venus
Terraforming is heavily implied. probably by way of seeding the clouds and surface of the planet (which are in a cooler, more habitable zone) with Bioengineered microorganisms.. photosynthetic ones that would break down the CO2 into other stuff. this would gradually reduce the atmosphere into something less hellish. this is a real world proposal that has been around since the 60's (originally suggested by Carl Sagan) though IRL there are chemical barriers to the idea.
in all probability, aerostats are likely. since space stations aren't mentioned.

Strangely coincidental, I just looked up that article Sunday.glitterboy2098 wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 1:37 am Terraforming is heavily implied. probably by way of seeding the clouds and surface of the planet (which are in a cooler, more habitable zone) with Bioengineered microorganisms.. photosynthetic ones that would break down the CO2 into other stuff. this would gradually reduce the atmosphere into something less hellish. this is a real world proposal that has been around since the 60's (originally suggested by Carl Sagan) though IRL there are chemical barriers to the idea.

Surface pressure remains an issue. Aerostats are a possibility.
Wasn't there something about strange lights from Venus in the later twists?

IIRC, it changed color and gave off flashes, but was left undefined.

Re: The Nazis of Venus
The irony would be if the human purists decided to go transhuman and started transforming Venus into computronium to support their uploaded consciousnesses.
Maybe as a way of escaping the corruption of human flesh by rampant mutagens they couldn't keep out of their environment.

I'll admit, them being the source of the machine problems in various twists had occurred to me. But I can't come up with any elegant way to do it.taalismn wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 10:51 pm The irony would be if the human purists decided to go transhuman and started transforming Venus into computronium to support their uploaded consciousnesses.

Re: The Nazis of Venus
Wouldn't it be more of a Sentinels situation? Kill all the mutants but they kill humans too?
“No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once, we will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.”

Re: The Nazis of Venus
Not INTENTIONALLY....welll, okay, long term they accidentally extinct 'pure' humans because without mutation and fresh DNA, and probably lowering standard of what counts as a 'mutation', 'pure' humans die of genetic senility.Warshield73 wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 8:27 pm Wouldn't it be more of a Sentinels situation? Re: The Nazis of Venus
so i dug into things: all of these are 'as viewed from earth or the surrounding space'
Twist 2 - 2238 AD, Mutagen planet - we find out that the EoH demanded the right to settle venus, then went completely incommunicado afterwards. we are told is had a 'fleet' suggesting a fairly large population of people taking exodus from earth.
Twist 3 - 2363 AD, Machine Civilization/Ecology. - Venus is no longer be as bright as it once was.
Twist 4 - 2488 AD, WAR! - Venus has become a dull green in color.
Twist 5 - 2713 AD, Early Homidan Evolution - Venus shimmers with an unnatural emerald green, and occasionally (every 1/2 hour) emits a tiny flicker of white light.
Twist 6 - 2838 AD, Late Homidian Evolution - Venus has changed color, it now gleams with a golden hue, flashing a tiny dot of white light every few minutes
twist 7 - 2963 AD, False Eden - Venus wears a shiny gold color, flashing with 'teeny dots' of white light every other minute.
definitely sounds like the EOH did some terraforming early on, its the only thing that explains twist 3 and 4. beyond that.. who knows what they were up to by twist 5, 6, and 7?
and to be honest, i wouldn't be surprised if the anti-mutant machines weren't something the EoH dreamed up after Twist 2.
though i have to wonder how Earth got repopulated, since Twist 2 implies nothing unmutated survived, and twist 3 implies the machines have been so successful in eradicating life there isn't much left but machines. and then of course twist 4 sees all that hammered in war.
so where did the ecology and especially the humans of twist 5 come from?

Digital gene banks and a space culture trying to re-terraform Earth? A faction of machines dedicated to environmental preservation and reconstruction?
