Cheap group transport

Unread post by Axelmania »

What are some affordable ways to ferry around your people without giving them the freedom of their own vehicle?

Originally RMB 227 had a couple. Boss had 3 passengers for 24k, Mountaineer was 64k but that 40 got you extra passenger plus 8/8/10 storage, pilot compartment, 5x tougher tires, over twice the MDC and unlimited upgrade options.

For those who gamed.with group transport, did you use these or other later ones?

WB5p138 the MZ-10 somehow stored 50% more passengers despite being 9/25 the length (Mountaineer is twice as tall as wilderness cruiser is long!) but I guess you could cram a couple dozen people into an 8x10 area. Better for slaving than comfort though.

LTC (Leather Troop Carrier) Typically come in pairs left and right.

Group transport is not been an issue in any games of rifts I have played typically there is sufficient vehicles in starting gear of players.
The Clones are coming you shall all be replaced, but who is to say you have not been replaced already.

Master of Type-O and the obvios.

Soon my army oc clones and winged-monkies will rule the world but first, must .......

I may debate canon and RAW, but the games I run are highly house ruled. So I am not debating for how I play but about how the system works as written.

May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.

Most OCCs start with transport.

If the party wants, ive always let them "trade in" their individual vehicles for 80% of purchase price and get a "group vehicle".

Mountaineer was always popular.

I always have and always will like the Northern Gun Pathmaker. Revised Sourcebook One originally and then the new northern gun books.
Has cropped up in multiple games I have been in. Not always as a result of me.

I'd prefer to avoid a % chance of death, and circle of travel requires you to get to your destination by some other means first to set up the receiving circle.

I houseruled that 1% to just be 500 miles off course and several hours off in time with no gear (which appears several minutes later some feet away)
because I'm a sadist and the threat of dropping the entire party naked into the ocean or into the middle of the Duluth xit hive etc etc is tantamount to the same thing, but keeps players sense of having their hands somewhat on the bucking bronco.

for dirt cheap compared to non-refit MDC vehicles.

though as a GM i'd allow any Operator with access to enough MDC armor materials to refit non-flying vehicles to be MDC as well, using the same stats. the GAW versions just look more or less the same as an unrefitted version, while a non-GAW refit is way more 'mad max' with bolted on scrap armor. (and possibly penalties to piloting, speed, and/or range if the operator has bad rolls.. something GAW would not get)

the non-flying limit is because you can't really just bolt scrap metal onto an airplane, helicopter, etc and have it work right. IMO GAW can do refits of aircraft because they've got the resources and skills to remove the sdc skin, and make a MDC version.

They are also in WB26 Dinoswamp (pg101-2), no need for MDC scrap.

Axelmania wrote:What are some affordable ways to ferry around your people without giving them the freedom of their own vehicle?

That depends several factors:
-size of the group
-geographic location
-how much flexibility you want to give them
-what role the vehicle is to play (is it just for A to B, or do you want some desired level of combat ability)

A Party of 2-4 (aside from what's been mentioned):
-Motorcycle with Sidecar (3; driver, sidecar, behind diver), not much storage space but its gets people around
-Hovercycle (2 as motorcycle, do they make a sidecar option?)
-Horse (2, more if you have a cart/coach for the horse to pull), or some other riding animal to serve in the same capacity
-The Marsh Raptor AT Buggy (Dino Swamp pg104, crew 2-4) comes in at 22-28k credits depending on engine (and weapon options)
-Dinosaur Swamp also has cheap boats, it limits where you can go and how you can get there, but...

Bikes miss the idea of a group vehicle. Ideally something you can be concealed on.

Some wild animals can be used as group transport

a carpet and the fly spell that makes a non mettle object fly.
Shifters.

A sail boat and a TW floater from SoT 6

A dragon hatching could carry a few party members.

(The problem is most enclosed vehicles either have low MDC or high cost, so using them for cover/concealment could lead to loss of vehicles. Motor cycles while you are exposed would be less prone to be shot instead they will kill you to claim the bike.)

It is a spell used by a magic user. It is as temporary as the character.

It needs to be recast, and while this is a huge advantage of being a mage, it doesn't tell us the market price for non-mages.

Kind of like, I could simply say "make a mutant with Sonic Flight and Superhuman PS, have him fly around carrying the party in a canoe". It is certainly doable and a great benefit for those capable of it, but wouldn't tell us the going rate to purchase those services by the average person who has no inherent transport capabilities.

I play mages my magic is how I get around. You wanted cheep the PC using the spell it is fairly cheep to cast.(it would require a mage know the spell so is situational. If you want a cost it would be the cost to learn the spell found in RUE.)
There is no established market selling spell casts in the middle of nowhere.

NG2 has a lot of party bus Options. One nice one is get some off road truck cheap and have it pull one of the nice trailer options. Gives you a good mobile camp that can haul a group around without breaking the bank.

Since I'm doing a new char. build. I'm trying to talk our GM into letting me find a damaged MX-422 to play with. If not them I'll go for the Mammoth.
