What Civilization Would You Most Want To Be With?

Unread post by Crucible »

I see a lot of pro and anti CS threads and no one tells where they would rather be. If its the CS then please say so, but I'd like to know about the others as well.

For me its the NGR...

Lets keep it on Rifts Earth and you are human and non powered.
L-20 Pulse Rifle=25,000 Credits, Plastic Man Full Environmental Armor=18,000 Credits, Speedster Hovercycle w/Nuclear power and Laser=461,000 Credits.

Well since you limited the equation by making it only for humans .. and even then .. none powered ..

I'd say New German Republic.

But this is not ultimatly where I would go..

Only if I were limited in choice of my race .. with pre-exsisting knowledge of the world in question.

Hmmm? That's a toughie, I'd have to say human, non powered New Navy. I like the ocean and I'm an ex-squid anyway. :D
Tho' Japan in the tech cities wouldn't be too bad either, but nope, definately New Navy.

My top five:
1. Lazlo
2. Free Quebec
3. Chi-Town
4. CS Iron heart
5. NGR

The CS has real potential if they work on being more accepting.

North America: Assuming I can't replace Hagan Lonovich (above all other choices): Lazlo. Peaceful city with plenty of opportunities for learning and advancment.

Arzno is a descent choice as well. I like the mix of magic and tech, just not sure of the heat.

Other good choices are Dweomer, Kingsdale, Silverado and New Lazlo, but all are much more dangerous and/or restrictive.

South America: Megaversal legion. I need all the help I can get and they will "rebuild you" :D

backup choice is Santiago

Europe: No doubt in my mind: The NGR. Least amount of culture shock and I might learn something.

might hang out in a big tree if I can't get there though ;)

Asia: Republic of Japan: Probably be the worst of the choices of culture shock, but it's relatively safe, and I'm educated enough to catch on.

Pacific: New Navy. Close enough to my own culture, descent toys and I might even get sea titaned.

backup choice is tritonia

If I landed on Africa or Atlantis, I would emmigrate as soon as it was feasible, but would learn anything and all I could.

1) None - A small villa on Hawaii where I would live alone with my pet stegosaurus that I would call Fluffy (or scaly)
2) The Swedish tech-society (from RMB) - Scandiavia is the most beautiful part of the world, Imho, when it comes to the nature
3) Scotland - Live close to nature in Scotland, maybe have a pet nessie.
4) New Lazlo - Lots of university buildings to plunder, yummie, I am a scholar at heart.
5) Lazlo, Lots of university classes to take.

I would only want to live in the Coalition States of America. Fighting proudly to defend my homeworld, my family, and my species from the invading inhuman hordes who want to kill, eat or enslave them. But then I am human and unpowered.

I'd go with the Republicans because anything is possible with a good network.

Also, they're not limited to any set region or geography, but I'd settle in an area with an established Republican sub culture (no one wants to be lonely in their purpose).

The problem is that, although there was an entire World Book named after it, nobody knows crap about Psyscape.

A fair Cliff-notes version of the Psyscape write up would go something like this: "They're a kingdom of powerful and understanding champions for good that disappeared years ago and have since returned to fight Nxla and...like...badness and stuff."

It's a kingdom of fair-minded individuals who value freedom and learning that's virtually unassailable because nobody knows where it is and it's not quite based in this dimension. Oh, and they were kicking monster butt long before the Coalition started pretending that it did...and they did so without urinating on their people's freedoms. While the CS was attacking a kingdom that wasn't threatening anybody, Psycape was putting the screws to a group that actually could have destroyed an entire planet.
Thank you, I'll take the corner lot on main street!

Well said ..

Coalition States or New German Republic.
There should be a specific sub-forum of the Rifts forum dedicated to the only hope for salvation of the human race, the Coalition States.

I'm torn between New Navy or Republic of Japan. I have a language gap with the RoJ, but they remember what the world was like. Plus, Miley Cyrus karaoke. I've got a time gap with the New Navy, but they still represent the Stars and Stripes.

I think one of the Russian warlords controls this area, but I could be wrong.

I think just part of the area. I remember there is one in the Caucasus between Black and Caspian Seas but not as far west as, say, Odesa.

Thanks to a handy-dandy map from Galactus Kid... it seems that Warlord Orloff has possibly reached as far as Odesa.

Warlord Sokolov shares the Sea of Azov with Orloff.

Kolodenko is the warlord I was thinking about in the Caucasus, encompassing the Caspian touching the Black Sea in the west and out to the Aural Sea in Uzbekistan in the east; the Aural I would expect to be dry in Rifts.

I would go to Lazlo and spend my life slaving away at building a sleeper ship... with redundant shields of course... Even If it means getting a Full-Cybernetic Conversion eventually then so be it...

Or I could find someone to rift me off to phase world...

In all honesty I would rather just go to Phase world and buy a ship there and fly around there...

FLORIDA with the Super-secret SPLICER House (non-canon) that noone knows about. How else do you think those MDC Dinos really came about. Yepp a Splicer Manipulation to try and create a new Warmount. Turned out they escaped and breed and breed and breed. Now they are everywhere.

As Non-powered Human, I'd be suited up in my DREADGUARD Host-Armor.

What Noone said we Could Not add to the setting, now did they they. So I added a Splicer House in Florida.

If i could not be lucky enough to happen on a Splicer House in Rifts Earth....

Well I guess I'd settle for Warlord Kolodenko's sphere of influence.
I'd become either a Heavy Machine, White Tiger or the secret Black Panther.
(my own design for the Black Panther Cyborg model was a mixture of a CS Juicer and the Lynx PA. CS Juicer styled blades, etc...Lynx PA head design...)

I'd steal/copy his designs, Solvetski designs, then come back to America. Once back in America, I'll set up my own Warlord-like Kingdom using these cyborg designs. I'd set up shop in the Georgia/Florida area. I'd start to clean out the local monsters with my cyborg Warcamp.

You'd set up your base of operations for your super-heavy and massive full borg conversions *in a swamp*???

I could just see it -

"All right comrades, we shall now subjugate this pitiful excuse for a leaderless land beneath the crushing power of our Sovietsky might! Onward!!!"

<deafening roar and cheering, powerful stomp of booted/'borg feet in unison>

.....20 minutes later.....

<glug glug glug>

"Hmmm....... so they all sank in the swamps, or became so bogged down the megacroc's and other wee beastie's thought they were chew toys and especially wriggly dinner...... note to self for future attempts..... keep INCREDIBLY HEAVY BORG TROOPS out of the mushy stuff......"

:) hee hee

Well I'm from Florida myself. Not much of the area that survives the Rifts flooding would be Swamp. The swampy areas of Rifts Earth would be towards the coasts. Inland should be dry or drier. Georgia should be mostly dry land and not swamp. The East coast part might be swampy but thats it.

Also, Borgs can have Jetpacks for the Swampy areas. Borgs can Swim remember. They will not be bogged down too much due to their Robotic Strength. Heck Borgs can be made just for those conditions, maybe a new Shocktrooper model based on the FQ water-cyborg.

Most Heavy machines only weight around 1000lbs with Armor. Power Armor, Robot vehicles are already assumed to be used in DinoSwamp. If they can be used, so can Cyborgs.

Set up main base in the dry areas. Use Borgs with Jetpacks, Bionic Wings, etc... to patrol the swamps quickly and efficiently. Keepthe Super-heavy Solvetski models near base for defense purposes. Thunderstorm, Thunderstrikes come to mind here.

It can work and work well. One of the Russian Warlords terrortory is full of swamps and marshes as well as Forrests (like florida, just less humidity).

I'd give my White Tigers Ultraborgs an Upgrade ... Bionic Wings. I'd rename them Tigerhawks.

Just a few Cyborg Models i would use :

I love that part of the country, it's far enough away from the CS not to have to deal with their nonsense (at least, not right away) but close enough to enough sources of high tech that the cool amenities would be available.

My piddling amount of American Indian blood probably wouldn't get me much traction with the Preserve's, but I'd be quite happy to join with them and their ideas.

Or, if I wasn't welcome, Lazlo/New Lazlo (for the education and learning opportunities), Kingsdale or Stormspire. I think I'd love the high tech and magic melting pots.

If I didn't land in North America, I think my absolute first choice would be the Megaversal Legion. Sign up for a hitch and get the Destroyer Borg conversion, serve 2 years, up to 10 maybe depending how it goes, then wander the Earth like Kane in Kung Fu.....

I would SO grab an ATL-7 rifle and a TB-9 (w/Earth eclip mod) for my journey too, hee hee. :)

If I ended up in Europe, NGR of course. Unless I could sweet talk the GeneSplicers into giving me a custom workup and then letting me go WITHOUT driving me batsh!t crazy. Yeah. That would happen.

Africa? How far can I swim before I get eated by sumtin? <shudder>

Australia? Head for Melbourne and see if the descendants of any of my friends are around to help a fella out.

So many choices, so few actual Rifts, lol
......

WHAT IF ... Wherever you ended up their happened to be a SPLICER HOUSE (Splicer RPG) ??
What would you do with some Bio-tech, in Rifts Earth ??

TechnoGothic wrote:Well I'm from Florida myself.

Ok, I've only glanced through my Warlords of Russia, so not very conversant on the terrain a particular warlord might be used to dealing with. Someone with experience there, yeah, that could be a different thing I recognize.

However, I'm pretty familiar with Dino Swamp, and except for a piece of the panhandle, and a narrow "ridge" down the center of what's left of the penninsula, all of Florida is SWAMP. So is the entire east coast from North Carolina south to FL, for (I think) about 200 miles inland, then it becomes "the Piedmont" region.

It is repeatedly mentioned in Dino Swamp how groups of explorers, adventurers, and CS recovery teams end up dying and/or losing their robots, RPA, and borgs. It's because they *can't* handle the swampy terrain, they get bogged down, their jets, hover fans, equipment of all kind get clogged with muck and debris. And even at "only" (heh) 1000 pounds for a borg, still a very dense mass for such a small surface area (the feet). When I was 400lbs and went hiking it was a nightmare going through marsh and heavy mud, I kept sinking so fast - and I've always been pretty strong, but that didn't help me much against the laws of physics! :) I've lost a lot of weight since then (230lbs), and when I went through heavy mud and a marshy bit of terrain about a month ago I barely noticed it (except for trying to make sure I didn't slip). I didn't sink into the ground the way I used to.

A borg would have to be moving pretty fast to avoid sinking in like that on every step. And if he's not got a sealed exterior, all that gunk and muck is going to be causing him some serious maintenance problems.

The jet pack idea in the swamp area isn't so great either. Dino Swamp specifically says that the noise of flying vehicles (hovercraft, flying robots, jets, planes, etc.) draws the nastier predators like honey draws flies, usually in droves. It's in the section where they talk about the Cape (i.e., the south, and the eastern half, of FL). The jet packs would certainly keep the borgs from having as many problems with sinking into the muck, but would bring a whole other kind of problem.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to be snarky here or anything. I was just flabbergasted at the thought of those freakishly powerful full borg conversions being stationed in a swamp like that. It would be like trying to use elephants there. Even the bigger, more powerful dino's stay out of that area for all these reasons. There are a few exceptions of course (cough, cough, *megacroc*, cough, cough). :)

Oops, got to get going, I'll think about the Splicer house thing and get back to you!

Good thread, good fun!

Well here is a Map I modified from the details found in Dino Swamp.
Light Green equal areas were there is a High Likelyhood of Big Swamps/Marsh grases, etc.
Dark Green areas is the High Ground. Mostly dry. A few small swamp-like place may be near Lakes, Ponds, and rivers but for the most part would be High and dry.

I'd have the Borgs Patrol the Dark Green area on foot or Fling with jetpacks.
The Bionic Wings Thankfully are Silient Flying. I would have them Patrol the Light Green areas.

Trust me about Florida Swamps. Most Large Trucks can drive through alot of them if they have Large Mud Tires. Swamp-bogging is pretty fun.

Yeah A Borg would need the Enviromental Seal option to foot trek through a bogg or swampy area. Hence why I'd equip them all with Jetpacks, or Wings.

<grab> Ok, consider that map a new part of my campaign, heh. :) Nice job with it.

Ok, if those areas are indeed color coded correctly, then there is a much larger area those enormoborgs could effectively function while walking. Are you sure central FL is accurate? I thought (been a couple weeks since I looked at it) there was only a small ridgeline-type area down the center of the peninsula that was grassland-ish terrain?

How the heck did you color that map up so nice? I always have to photocopy mine and go at them with colored highlighters, heh. Yours is beautiful. (I'm easliy amused when it comes to maps.)

No problem.
I scanned the picture in. Saved it a Bitmap (around 2 mb size).
Reopened it in Paint. Saved as Monochrome Bitmap. (Size 1.3 mb now). Clears up the Map nicely. Remove any extra black dots here and there.
Save as a 256 Color Bitmap.
Reopen. Add color as needed. (Fill works wonders as does the straight line thingie).
Save again.
Reopen. Save file as a new Jpeg (around 100 kb)(add a B or 2 whatever, keep the Bitmap though).
Open the Jpeg and upload it whatever like I did. I did lose alot of detail with the jpeg.
I could Upload a Bitmap if I shrink it down to 1 mb (my max size on Photobucket)

Non-powered human? Well, Lazlo I guess, and a very very very fast conversion to Cold Blooded as soon as possible... Bollocks to being non-powered and non-MDC for long...

Briscoe America for me! (World Book 13, page 13).

The New Navy surface cities of Refuge or Salvation would be tempting, but the strict martial law society would prevent me from telling off amphib visitors, who I would have no tolerance for. Hey, they stink like fish out of water!

The city of Psycape sounds very appealing, except that I wouldn't want the Psynex in my head, or the link it provides. As WB: 12, page 26 mentions, "They understand and sympathize with every emotional, mental and physical trauma of those around them. They feel the pain of others in ways ordinary people cannot imagine." Nope, I don't want to feel their pain, do you?

This American votes for Briscoe America given the information we have on Rifts earth thus far.

If saying non powered means I can never get power either (learn magic/get cybernetics/bionics, learn mystic martial arts, etc) then I'd go with the Republic of Japan. Awesome tech society where I can learn a lot of cool new stuff, play with new tech, and live a pretty peaceful, normal life.

If I can later get a "powered" class here are my top 5:

1) Lazlo
2) The New Empire (Japan)
3) GeoFront
4) Republic of Japan
5) Wherever that Cyber-Knight training facility is that's rumored to be out west.

Psyscape would be on my top 5 except I'd just mope around being super depressed that I didn't have any sweet master psychic powers. :(
