Original Ed. Class SDCs?

Unread post by taalismn »

Okay, I'm having a senior moment...or a succession of them.....
While RUE lists SDC bonuses by individual OCCs, I cannot find the baseline for each class. All I've been able to find is the default 2d6+12 SDC for characters.
Nor can I find my 1st ed. copy for that matter.
Nor in the Ultimate Errata pages.
Now, if I recall, Men at Arms started with 1d4x10 SDC, Scholars/Adventurers with 4d6 SDC, and Psychics/Mages with 3d6 SDC? Do I remember that right?
Can somebody either correct these values or point me to what page in the RUE lists the baseline OCC SDC ratings?

To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

Your base values are correct. But I think they removed them from RUE and replaced it with the bonus SDC that each OCC gets.

RMB, page 9.
Determining physical S.D.C. is simple, practitioners of magic andscholars and adventurers roll four 6-sided dice (4D6) for S.D.C., psychicR.C.C.s roll three 6-sided dice (3D6) for S.D.C. Men of Arms rolllD4x 10, in addition to any O.C.C. and/or skill bonuses. Dragons donot get physical S.D.C. points.
RUE 287 says everyone gets 2d6+12, plus bonuses, unless otherwise noted.

So, if you have a headhunter, RUE gives you 3d6 (occ bonus) + 2d6 + 12 (base), which averages to 29.5 SDC. The RMB, which was more parsimonious with class bonuses, gave you 1d4*10, which averages out to 25 SDC. Headhunters are kinda the worst off on this... for crazies and juicers, the lost 1d4*10 is dwarfed by their class abilities. Cyber-knights get 1d4*10, meaning that, compared to RMB, they get a bonus of 2d6+12. Glitter Boys get a flat +20, in addition to the 2d6+12. CS OCCs also lose out (they don't get any OCC bonuses at all in the RUE), but no one cares about them.

When RUE first came out I would go with base values listed in RMB plus the class bonuses listed in RUE. Currently I don't own a copy of RMB so I tend to go with base RUE.

I got rather confused when some of the mages didn't seem to get any bonus SDC, effectively making them tissue paper.
I really wish RUE had made the SDC issue more prominently displayed.

But I thank everybody who responded for your good work. :-D

Yeah but in my games we always give max at level 1. Its a holdover habit from the D&D days cuz if you rolled low you were at a serious disadvantage. Really, how the heck would you play a hero with 1 H.P. ?

Ok, then a Headhunter starts with 18 + 12 + 12, or 42 SDC under the new rules, and 40 under the old.
