Invisibility Items

Unread post by Thom001 »

Hello everyone, I remember an armor and some kind of cloth or sheet that rendered the wearer invisible. I think they were Naruni products, but I am not sure. My question is for the armor and sheet/cloth thing how would this compare to the spells of invisibility? For the cloth can it be sewn, shaped or otherwise manipulated? Or is it come type of cloak? I cannot find it or remember much about it.

You mean the Optical Camouflage sheets in Rifts Mercenaries. Simple question to answer.....they don't render the user invisible.

The closest things are comparable are the Chameleon Super Power and the Chameleon Spell. (Like they just C&P'ed the mechanics of them for the sheets.)

I believe that if the sheets take any damage they loose their Camouflaging abilities.

In other words, you can't make the same Thermo-Optic armor from the 'Ghost in the Shell' anime within the published PB game texts.

May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

Not very well compared to magic stealth. It's more like a flat foldable projection sheet, while the armor is basically the same. The sheets CANNOT be cut off, sown, or otherwise altered post-sale(though if you had specific needs in mind, Naruni might do a custom job for you...at a good markup for the original work. If you're wearing Naruni Thermal Kinetic Armor under the optical camou sheet, you further cut down any thermal telltale that would otherwise leak out under the edges of your camou-shroud.

I think you're thinking of the naruni camoflage armor/sheets in the mercs book, which aren't quite invisible but come awfully close so long as you stand still. the sheets describe taking any damage as dissipating the camoflage effect but you can probably do soe light modifications to make a poncho if you need to, really.

the main advantage is that simple invisibility doesn't shield you from infrared detection and these things do.

Thanks for the quick responses, as always. I was more thinking of using the sheets and maybe the armor to conceal a sniper in an outdoor urban setting as he/she waits for a shot. I dunno if this would be the best option, it was just the first to come to mind. If anyone has any betters ones please feel free to put them here. Thanks again.

well it has the advantage of not winking out when you fire, and the sheets say they can be plugged into an optics system to view outward so you don't have to expose yourself much with them....if they're in the cover of some rubble or something it should be perfect nd won't require you too send a magic user out to set it up and maybe alert psi-stalker guards.

I always thought of the armor as essentially like the predator effect in the predator movies, as being the inspiration. although possibly not quite as good as that.

the sheets would be similar, but not as stable (IE a lot easier to disrupt because the sheets can't take abuse.
my off the cuff answer is that the sheets are really intended for camouflaging things like "duck blinds" or for camouflage blanket /tarp, or for the old school tents that were a piece of canvas quicky tent, just active/smart camouflage material
