The Purge of Babylon: A Novel of Survival (Book 1) Excellent book so far. End of the world with vampire/ghoul like things killing everybody. I just started it and it looks like an awesome series. Real gritty. Half a dozen books in the series so far.
Ex Heroes This series is so awesome...zombies vs. superheroes. It is not as cheesy as it sounds. Four books in series is four books too few.
World War Z Simply the best zombie book ever.
Confessions of a D-List Supervillain & Origins of a D-List Supervillain The first book is about a world taken over by mind controlling bugs and only a low rate supervillain can stop them. This book is super funny and has an awesome story. Origins is a prequel.
The Hunger Games This series of books is much better than the movie.
this is a list of some of the novels that fit what you asked about. 'The Stand' by Stephan King, 'Lucifer's Hammer' by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, 'Damnation Alley' by Roger Zelazny, 'The Postman' by David Brin, 'Demons and Crawlers' by John Shirley, 'Logan's Run' by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson.

the Deathlands series by Gold Eagle Publishing.. very fallout like, though it has gone through a couple different writers (all working under the same psuedonym) so the feel and style varies. just don't expect spectacular writing. the series has also been going on for a long time, so there has been some subtle retconning of the backstory (originally the series was set after a nuclear WW3 between the soviets and americans, when the soviet union fell they started de-emphasising that aspect and adding more even more 'weird tech' and supernatural type elements.)

E.E. Knight's - Vampire Earth Series. Has a bit of everything in it. Reminded me a lot of RIFTS North America.

Damn, it has been a looong time since I thought about that pulp series.
