Re: RIFTS earth, actual
We are exploring the ruins of one of the ruined cities and I guess this is what he thinks it looks likes. I like it.

I never said what city we were exploring. It is not Detroit. Look at the pictures and marvel. They are pretty awesome. The point is my players imaginations are taking them to places that look like this.

I think the city is Detroit. I was just hoping you guys would appreciate the post, rather than argue its validity.

I am very opinionated. Yes I rub people the wrong way but at the end of the day I just enjoy good hard discussion and will gladly walk away agreeing to not agree

I think its gives a nice visual vibe before you start a session
you could use one of those pictures to set up
you re entring a...
instead of having to give a soliquy on what the building looks like you can bring up that image
I think its real cool!!!

I remember days like this when my father took me to the forest and we ate wild blueberries. More than 20 years ago. I was just a boy of four or five. The leaves were so dark and green then. The grass smelled sweet with the spring wind...For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm.

I've always liked the idea of using other media during pnping. We had a GM who kept his laptop next to him, pre-loaded with all the pictures to describe our adventures that night, and would whip em out when appropriate. Not only gave the game a much deeper feel, but also make things move much more quickly!

I do the same thing, I have pictures, maps, music and other props for my games.
Don't say that too loud or too often or the copywrite Nazis will bring you to court for playing music at a gathering and not paying the proper fees to use the music. It's not a joke, there is a fee that you are legally required to pay to do this, of course if they don't have any way of knowing that you are then they don't have a clue, just don't underestimate the internet.

I got the same feeling man, no worries there are some cool pics and I was saddened to see a great American city to look like it belongs in Rifts. At the same time I was excited to show these as examples to my players
Skilled Warriors of old
Their wariness was as that of one crossing a river in winter;
Their caution was as that of one in fear of all around;
Their gravity was as that of a guest
Their relaxation was as that of ice at the melting point

I dont get the post apocalyptic theme - thats what most places in the UK look like today!
Seriously though great link - it will get my players really being able to picture the settings. I'll probably show them before we play Dead Reign.

Don't mind us. We are...occasionally...rather uncivilized rules lawyers and "canon" whores around here. Personally I think those pictures are awesome.

I could imagine that being an old Megdamage building from the golden age of man... buried under debris and a couple hundred years of plant growth.
The light from the building's collapsing roof could be player characters peaking in, ready to do some spelunking!

Actually our current campaign has them investigating a couple of supernaturally MDC pre-Rifts buildings.

I think it's sad that this is happening to any city, but from a game point of view they are great photo's for setting the mood.

It's a good visual index, just ignore the hardcore players who state it's wrong (which it would be, for many reasons I won't get into), but the pictures offer a good feel for post-rifts.
Getting a mage to tell you where the hydra is...10,000 gold
Hiring a summoner... 40,000 gold
Hiring one hundred 10th level mercenaries... 98,567 gold
Giving a hydra skull to your necromancer... priceless
Board? Read bad fan fiction!

Re: RIFTS earth, actual
I love pics like these, and whilst most things that look like this wouldn't survive the 200 years, some would for a few reasons;
-Anything sitting on a Nexus could be preserved by magic energies.
-Cities that were buried by Pyroclastic flow from the Yellowstone Super volcano or similar volcanic activity would be preserved underneath a dense layer of ash and mud, much like Pompeii.
-Some cities could have been sucked into pocket dimensions or similar dimensional anomalies.

The word "THAN" is important. Something is "better than" something else, not "better then", it's "rather than" not "rather then".

Scary and depressing stuff from a PRESENT perspective, let alone a post-apocalyptic one.
Good, and moving, find.
