Remember, DB; PB fans tend to be rather....excitable....,and trigger-happy... when it comes to the matter of getting books.
It's a good idea to lay low and keep quiet until the others start getting their copies, and are less inclined to relieve you of yours just for a peek.

I bought a copy at VIP night, and I don't think I'm going to sleep in the next hour so I shall delurk for the first time in a couple of years to share some first impressions of the book. (sorry for any mis-spellings, it's late.)

First off it has a nice section of information on what's been happening between PA 103 and PA 109. Year by year details on the war with the gargoyles and brodkill empires. Good info to have for setting up games during that time, and for running games in "present day"

Next is updated info on the NGR military, it's stucture and tactics, as well as more info on the NGR government and it's stucture. There's also a big section on major cities, culture, and relations with D-bees. All of which looks useful. following that is a history of the Triax corp, and info on a lot of their non-military products. Everything from cars to domestic robots to energy drinks.

Next is weapons and armor, otherwise known as "The second half of the book" (I'm not kidding either.) New guns, new and improved body armors, upgrades to a bunch of the robots and power armors, and several new designs are obviously intended to bring Triax out of the shadow of the CS that it's been in tech-wise after CWC came out. My first impression is that they do bring Triax back to the top of the heap as far as kickass toys, with a MK 2 devestator robot, more designs that make use of "Slammer" missles. aircraft with "hardpoint" weapons systems, and huge mobile bases similar to the CS designs.

Oh, and one more thing. Glitter boy. Glitter boy with a double barreled boom gun. :D

Remember back in the day? Back before everybody and their brother had a Glitter Boy or GB variant?

Those were good times.

I blame the fact that there are so many monsters with huge MDC totals. If everything and it's brother didnt seem to have 600+ MDC, you wouldn't need weapons that can do a 200 MDC headshot.

Also, when you consider the sheer numbers of gargoyles and brodkill the NGR is faced with (swarms in the thousands if not tens of thousands) their use of the GB tech starts looking pretty reasonable.

Talking to Notorious Aten, the "fat boy" glitter boy variant is something he doodled on one of his 8th grade math tests and has wanted to canonize for years. He showed me the old math test with his doodle on it.

while it is ultimately a impressive and understandable extension of glitter boy technology I think the "Hell Angel" variant is in the end the more impressive suit for its ability to reposition quickly.

One question: How's the Art? I really loved alot of Long's clean looks to the Traix stuff in the first one. Is it nice? Or is it gloppy snot balls like "some" of the stuff we've gotten over the years?

Hmmm...interesting...'Beers of Rifts Earth'...and we have this stuff called 'Bastard's Brew' which is apparently the best North American beer...it sez it's brewed somewhere in the Eastern Seaboard in the territories claimed by the Shemarrian Nation...
What are you willing to bet that Hagan likes the stuff and has assigned the Shemarrians to quietly guard the brewery from any danger, and that he sends agents(or maybe even goes himself) to pick up large orders of the stuff for his own consumption?

there is a great backstory to that beer I'll tell you sometime, and I'm sure Hagan likes the stuff.

That's what I was worried about. *Wince* I've been... extremely vocal about Burles art in the past so I won't go into it here, other than to say, I hope his contributions are an extreme minimum. It looks like shaped snot on a page.

Edit: I've already ordered it. lol Palladium's already got my coin.

I'm jus' saying. One of these days I've got to save up and actually make it to an open house so I can shake the peer livin' crap out of Kevin and get him to stop usin' that guy.

Now, now... Mr Burles' style is a perfect match to certain other Palladium lines. His illustrations for the Wormwodd Addenda, for example, were spot on.

Mentally substitute the Long picture at the back of Rifts: Underseas (pg 213) for for a Triax underwater base.

I can mentally picture the sort of doodle that yields something like that...And it's great to discover some early design or creation and be able to bring it forward in time to something more serious and printworthy...Something just resting in a pile or folder somewhere, bidding its time until its moment of glory comes.

This just means, though, that somewhere out there, there has to be at least one Glitterboy collector who aims to collect an example of every single 'official' GB variant and model.

If he is the guy who did the majority of the art in anything splynn related, he needs to be hanged. I think burles' snot wobble is horrendous. I'm willing to say it ruined more than one book for me. I don't even want to open dimensional market because the artwork on some of those pieces literally offends me. Not that I know why, I think its just that bad, and no one I have talked to disagrees.

If he also did wormwood, I'd say spare him, and ask him what the Expletive happened.

I think Kent Burles' art is sometimes put in out of context places. I think it's too much of a clash with other Rifts art, especially when he tries to include something technical like a robot or power armor or something. For example there's a picture of his of the burbs and it has some weird robot that looks very vaguely like a Spider Skull Walker but really just looks like a giant dinner plate with legs.

However I don't mind his pics of Daemonix and stuff like that, I think it's very appropriate in that scenario.

If they've let him do any technical stuff in Triax 2 I would be a little disappointed.
The word "THAN" is important. Something is "better than" something else, not "better then", it's "rather than" not "rather then".

I've said this for a while. He's ruined alot of things for me with his art.

Some of his 'organic' stuff isn't 'that bad', but anytime he tries to do technological stuff. wow. Gross. Just super a-symmetrical stuff. Just globs and melty wax lookin' snot glob stuff. It's just gross. The majority of it looks like it's sculpted from snot or butter or something. lol

When ever I get new Palladium books I honestly go though to see how much crap he's ruined for me in the book due to his art.

His stuff is at the end of the book. The main ones I don't like are the new super-submersible carrier and two pictures of the new and improved mobile infantry strike bases(the new version of the one from the Mindwerks book)

I like it, except for the Kent Burles stuff. I'm just not a fan of his art. He does the art for the NGR's new submersible carrier, and its kind of hard for me to picture it with his art.

Mentally substitute the Long picture at the back of Rifts: Underseas (pg 213) for for a Triax underwater base.

if it makes you feel better, the giant submersible carrier was designed from that picture. i dont know why the picture wasn't simply reprinted. probably would have been cheaper. but i haven't seen the finished product yet so dont listen to me.

Yeah, Even with some of the stuff that was cut, it was actually mentioned or condensed.

I got my copy of triax 2. I had to beat taylor white to get it...but, his blood will make this book "extra special" on ebay.

So, a quick thought, while we were celebrating the release of the book at a local pizza place where I ate all the pizza, seeing as how he no longer has teeth to chew with, we came up with a theory on why the devestator's gun only does 2d6x10 damage.

It's a huge joke. Kevin probably sits back at his office and goes "hey...hey alex, wayne...check this out...another thread about the devistators weapon damage...Oh, god...these guys are seriously pissed. this is SO funny. I mean these guys are IRL pissed about this....and this guy...remind me to wear a bullet proof vest to the next convenion I go to."

So far, I've only got to glance at it, but I'm really happy about it. The stuff on dbees and psychics is very much in line in how I thought NGR would be. I like the toys in it too...and SDC weapons.

FYI, buy this book. Now.

What ARE their views on Dbees. I know that it started off kinda ok. Then in WB5 kinda was glossed over and ignored... what's the view now?

Second class citizens at best. Then general view of the population is that Dbees are not wanted or welcomed. They are treated pretty badly, though not as harshly as CS treats dbees. They are not allowed to own propery, cannot vote for president, no laws to really regulate their treatment. Mentioned something akin to they can be overworked, under paid and then thrown in the street.

They were ok at one time but then NGR got low on resources and basically deported them (per wb5). Since then there has been an effort to fix this, but recent events (Dbees getting fed up, and using violence) have made it a bit more difficult to succeed.

There are things to help them along (such as being allowed to serve in the military).

It's kinda reminiscent of how black people were treated in the south, but worse.

Ahh thank you.

Waiting on this book with alot of excitement. It's been one I've wanted since WB5 came out so many years ago. Can't wait to get in there and read this one.

So, my copy says that the Dev II uses a Dual Coaxial Boom Gun in each hand, loaded with depleted U rounds for a little something extra. Though each arm can be controlled by a separate gunner, they can also be used paired weapons style.

That makes much more sense than the optional "super" laser canon. I'm going to assume the 50% extra damage on a crit is a typo.

:)

Haven't had a chance to read closely yet, but it looks pretty good. Buy it!!!

It's kinda reminiscent of how black people were treated in the south, but worse.

technically, this is just elaboration on the WB5 description. in WB5, dbee's had to live either outside the NGR, or in various unofficial communities (IE: squatters camps). Dbees had no legal standing, but it was implied they could be hired (legally) to do work.
basically they fell somewhere between "illegal alien" and "migrant labor worker." if the triax2 version is as you say, "second class citizen" still wouldn't describe it well at all, since even a second class citizen is still recognized as a citizen, and gains a few benefits from that recognition. nor would i compare it to the treatment of the blacks post-civil war, since segregation and jim crow didn't really change the fact they were legally citizens..it just relegated them to a status where that was the only aspect of citizenship they could claim without a struggle.
nor would it match the pre-civil war treatment of same, since in the NGR Dbees are not slaves nor considered subject to ownership by others.

in fact, the NGR's approach seems to be a typical example of Nonpersons, not unlike ilegal aliens or homeless. but it is probably more accurate to consider Dbee's in the NGR to be Stateless persons, rather than nonpersons.

one question (since i won't be able to buy a copy for another few weeks)..does it say what year the NGR deported it's Dbee population?
