Origins of Witches

Unread post by plata_knight »

The standard Pact Witch, the Boar-Men of South America and the Wendigos of Canada, are all cases which resulted from pacts with Alien Intelligences, Demon/Deevil Lords, or the occasional Dark God.

But what about the African Witch, or the Night Witch from Russia? It doesn't say how they come into being, instead giving unclear references to them learning a "dark magic". For that matter, Hidden Witches actually seem to have an "inner demon" instead of some external source that results in their powers , and are the only witches which can be of Good Alignments (though its hard). How do these three types come by their powers?

Each magic class is described in their respective books...

You should check them out...some of them are pretty darn cool...

And no...not all witches derive power from a supernatural entity...some of them are merely different forms of magic casters...

i still dont buy that link of only doing pacts with evil things. what if the rare GOOD supernatural intelligence wanted to make a major pact?

There is nothing that prevents it from happening, as long as it doesn't violate the PCs freedom.

Which major pacts as they stand do.

The difficulty with a good supernatural intelligence is that they aren't, for the most part, EVIL evil. They're incomprehensible evil. They're the sort of evil which simply doesn't consider humanity, because humanity (and like races) are utterly inconsequential on the scale at which they think.
