I think once you've exhausted the Palladium library for tricks, you should probably head to your local library and read a few magic books. A lot of the things that RL magicians do utilize specialized equipment or devices, which could be incorporated into any character you create.

Ok, I think I'm just gonna rule that the book itself, regardless of whatever is written in it, is non-magical. If it has wards/circles/runes/protections/a naval warship on it, then it's magical.

What, exactly, are you looking for to be included in a GM screen for HU? You could potentially design one yourself and take it to Kinko's or Insty Prints or whatever version of a print shop you have in your area and have it done up for you.
