Re: Magic weak, tech is better
Agreed. One thing I left out by mistake was that I used a Rifts Lizard Mage using CB1r, so had lots of power and MDC. Even still, it was telling that the Lizard Mage still struggled against multiple opponents. That said, I see where a moderately powered mage (with a smart player) could still figure...

Re: Magic weak, tech is better
The lessons 1. Mages need to use tactics that prevent coordinated enemy fire and find ways to get those higher level spells cast. Technology gives a strong and possibly overwhelming first strike advantage, but once distracted or diverted away from the mage, tech opponents can be cut down one by one...

Re: Mega-Damage
Why does it have to be balanced? You keep saying things aren't balanced, but there is no real reason to balance things out the way you seem to be suggesting unless you are looking to get a "participation" trophy, Palladium doesn't sugar coat that you can have unbalanced scenarios just lik...

Re: Mega-Damage
How are you trying to use the term "AR" here? Because in Palladium, AR is about strike rolls, not about damage amounts. I think part of the arguing going on might well be that not everybody gets what you're trying to say. Fair point, and you are absolutely correct. I was thinking more in ...

Re: Mega-Damage
AR or Armor Rating in the Palladium system is something else as that is a target number in order to do damage (and the type of AR is also important, natural or artificial or vehicle). Per RAW for converting to a pure SDC setting (CB1r pg30-2, or D&G pg 18-19) the AR would be determined by class...

Marvel Zombies turn everything into zombies, even energy beings - so you could riff off that.

Re: Magic weak, tech is better
I’ve played for years and no matter how many times I try a magic occ I find them to be all very weak in comparison to tech. At low levels they don’t have any spells that compete with a solid energy rifle and they never seem to have enough ppe really to use higher level spells. At low levels they se...

Re: Mega-Damage
I don't think so. Leather Armor is going to have a lot lower AR than Plate Armor. Dude, we're talking about MDC armour ratings, not plate! So converting MDC into an AR rating, by RAW would require it be at least 100 points! That doesn't mean either are MDC. The pole went through the suits arm. The ...

Re: Mega-Damage
This means that SDC can damage MDC provided it's sufficiently strong enough. Good counterpoint, so that would mean that AR levels would have to start at 100 points, plus. Considering Iron Man knocked out one of the Hulk's teeth, he isn't an MDC creature. No, this is wrong. On the grounds that he ca...

Re: New Books Upgrading Old Books
We can do that with Rifts. You don't have MDC armour in Fantasy, so this is a lie! Whereas with Savage Pathfinder I can do exactly that. I consider Palladium a decent system and that other game's mechanics suck. Hahahahahahahahaha! I don't know about Savage Worlds. I haven't tried it but I hated St...

Re: Do you think it,s time for 3nd Edition Heroes Unlimited?
Palladium Books is backwards compatible. Mostly. The only backwards compatibility problem I've come up against is not having the original skills lists available. What does Radiation Technology do? And how much of the new rule book will be dedicated to converting the old system? And when will it sto...

Re: Mega-Damage
Only if the grenade can beat the AR. In a word, no. Page 288 S.D.C. attacks that inflict 1 -99 points of damage bounce off the armor like bullets bouncing off Superman. The attack might leave scratches, scuffs, little ding marks, and pit the paint job, but that's it. RAW says I believe that anythin...

Re: Mega-Damage
I agree that certain things about it are unbalanced, but overall, I think it works just fine. What it needs is essentially breaking down into categories, such that everyone does the essentially the same damage based upon that. It would equalise stuff out. So say when it comes to MDC Handguns (and I...

Re: New Books Upgrading Old Books
Don't have to tell me; most of my for-fun work these days is SWADE, just because I can use it for a lot of things from only a few references. True, plus you could get a character from Savage Pathfinder, or Savage Fantasy Companion with Heavy (+2) armour or powers and fit right into Savage Rifts, no...

Re: Do you think it,s time for 3nd Edition Heroes Unlimited?
That's because Palladium chooses to break their games up among several books and update power categories by releasing new books instead of releasing a completely new edition. That's poor design. When they do release new editions, they cut and paste stuff from the old editions instead of writing com...

Re: Do you think it,s time for 3nd Edition Heroes Unlimited?
Just because it is right for D&D does not automatically make it right for Palladium. You do not cite examples of Palladium's history of doing such, so there is no proof of your assertion. I do not believe Palladium capable of it. We might have to agree to disagree. Considering their sales will ...

Re: New Books Upgrading Old Books
Oh, way more than that. You have White Box, the first stuff to come out. You have Holmes, you have Mentzer, you have the BECMI/RC era by Allston. You have 1e AD&D, 2e AD&D, 3e D&D, 3.5 D&D (which had several significant shifts, really more than you see between 1e and 2e). You then h...

Re: Thoughts on Palladium Fantasy RPG?
I like the magic system. Having a pool of energy from which you pull cast spells is a great idea. It's much better than spells per day, or spell slots. Various 3PP DnD 5e have remove spell slots and gone with Power Points, Aeltaltis being one. I don't think that a mage runs out of power quickly, un...

Re: Do you think it,s time for 3nd Edition Heroes Unlimited?
If you're just revising the rules, putting in errata and such, sure. If you're wanting a completely new rule system, then no. It isn't just the rule book you'd be replacing but every sourcebook after it. This is actually not quite correct, but I can understand why you would think such. In DnD, that...

Re: Mega-Damage
I think MDC works just fine in Palladium. I also like how it works in Savage Worlds. It just is not balanced. I thought I saw a conversion rule for that but I can't find it. Since the Patton II Tank has an AR of 18, the High Tech Tank has an AR of 15, and the Walker Bulldog Tank has an AR of 14. I'...

Re: New Books Upgrading Old Books
If other books have additional rules then the rules aren't all in one book, so you'd still be flipping multiple books. And if all the rules were in one book, you'd have a massive book. That's the point, they should be in one book. On the other hand I constantly read about fans abandoning games that...

Re: Mega-Damage
I never figured out D&D so I can't speak to that. Savage Worlds sounds overly complicated. It works the same way in DnD as in PB, sort of. Anything MDC is utterly immune to any damage from smaller weapons. I think mega-damage works. For those that don't like MDC, it can be converted to AR/ SDC....

Re: New Books Upgrading Old Books
Oh, no, not in the least. I'm pretty sure Palladium, or at least Palladium Fans, have pointed to the lack of balance as a virtue, which I don't entirely agree with. I'm not defending Palladium on this... just looking at what seems to be the facts associated with it. It is just laziness on behalf of...

Re: Do you think it,s time for 3nd Edition Heroes Unlimited?
I agree the game should be expanding and improving. I disagree that we need a new edition every couple of years. Doing so takes time away from creating new things. It also annoys the players and fractures the fan base. I know there's players who prefer the original edition over the current one. Tha...

Re: New Books Upgrading Old Books
To an extent, Palladium doesn't have the manpower to do so; smaller shops, with less turnover, don't revise their rules nearly as often; you're more likely to get slight changes than a full revision. If you have one basic book, and a supers book, like Savage Worlds; any settings on top of that are ...

Mega-Damage
Every setting has mega-damage stuff, and it is just the representation of high levels of damage or armour. So there is a lot of division on this. Is it a good thing, or bad thing? Is it done well in Palladium? Not at all, in fact the idea is amazing, but execution is abysmal. So what about other way...

Re: Thoughts on Palladium Fantasy RPG?
Listening to the recent System Mastery episode informed me that Palladium Fantasy RPG is a game that exists. Would anyone like to share their experiences playing that? I always hear about how RIFTS itself is (hilariously) broken and/or overwrought. Does this game suffer from that same fate as well?...

Re: Do you think it,s time for 3nd Edition Heroes Unlimited?
Technically, a new edition of HU would become the 4th edition. There are two editions that are completely different with the blue cover - One is unrevised and uses the original PB ruleset and the second says Revised on the cover and uses what we know as the megaversal system. Then there is the whit...

Re: Do you think it,s time for 3nd Edition Heroes Unlimited?
Heroes Unlimiited is a game that should always be expanding and evolving, so while I agree that the concepts should be expanded and improve, those things can be done as new books adding to the existing game. It does not need a new edition to grow and add new concepts. If it did, we would need a new...
