Tautons RCC

Unread post by (SHIFTY) »

I was reading about this character class and thought they sounded pretty darn cool. Has anyone played these creatures before? If so tell me what you thought?

They are good but for me too big to play.
Once the creature gets over 9' tall it's difficult to interact with other people. Unless you're in a game based in some monster kingdom.

They are.
Tautons are crocodile people with scorpion tails.

Love the race, have played it as a pc, but don't like the way they do the skills and the format in general for them (or for the other egyptian minion races for that matter).
Very fun race and a unique combination of power and stealth (the huge snake sneaks rather well ;)).

let's just say ks has a particular view of Africa and leave it at that.

I had a friend play one for a short while. We called him Mr. Green Jeans. One of the special things we worked out for him was that we allowed him to use the extra attack he gets speciffically for his tail as a defensive action usable once per melee or a normal tail-smack attack. One of the problems he had with the character was his armor. The guy wanted to use the body armor that comes with the RCC package, but at the same time he didn't want it nuked from damage. His personal MDC regenerates, his armor doesn't. It was a moderate problem.

One last question on the Tautons.

Do the Tautons bodys look scaly like a reptiles or do they have normal Human looking bodys(except for the crocodile head and scorpion tale)?

Something confusing about the Tautons though.

It states on page 64 in Rifts Africa for the Tauton "Combat: Martial Arts and boxing, averaging four to six(plus tail strike) hand to hand melee round attacks, or 2 by magic."

I thought that everyone with a Hand to Hand style started with four attacks per melee to start. This is what It stated in the RGMG? Am I missing something here?

That is the main complaint about the "2 for living" rule. Older NPCs don't have the two attacks. You have to add them in yourself.

The body is essentially humanoid, but the skin is scaly and croc like, I guess even the tail is actually covered in horny skin rather than proper chitin.

Is this also the case with older RCCs like the Tauton? To update them you have to add in there additional two attacks?

Sort of.
Since the hand to hands were updated to give 4 attacks at first level (3 for assassin) you just use that.

So for my 1st level Tauton who starts with Martial Arts and boxing. I would have a total of six attacks to start (counting my scorpion tail bonus)using the new rules, and the old rules for the average hand to hand actions being 4-6(counting the tail strike) are now null and void.
