I rework skills in every single campaign I run. Usually I add skills from other games, combine some skills, and add some homemade skills.
So for Rifts I often combine the tracking skills, animal and human the same. Split Robot & Power Armor into 2 different skills. Then add a bunch of the skills from Robotech 2e. Phase world is the same except I also mess with space piloting skills.
Heroes unlimited I tend to add skills from BTS plus homemade skills like parkour.
I rarely mass with skills percentages as that is often part of the difficulty.
I don't think I have used just the skills as is in a PB game since Rifts came out.

Re: Reworking Skills Just a Bit
several years ago, I reworked the entire system including all the skills, condensed quite a few and standardized the % and a consistent rules set for them all.
