I just use the city of Toronto (of which I have been born, raised and will probably die in) as is and "alter" area's that may not have survived the cataclysm..but since Toronto is THE center on the universe and greatest city in the world... not much got damaged ;)

LOL ...

yer not vain ... are you?

another thing to do .. go to the Forestry service ... and ask for 'topigraphical maps' ... it shows the trails and heights above sea level in places ... that way you KNOW where you are if you got a map and a compass

maybe sometong on 'orienteering' will help? ..

scouts and cubs would have to learn that skill for a patch. could contact them for an idea where to find the line map thing ...

i apologize for the decay in thinking .. but i'm wiped

and dhak .. TO stunk when i lived there ... even IF the power pole workmen could hear the security service that escorted the queen mother on one of her visits thru the city ....

i at least gave the people lining the street cool water from the tap ... lived near a movie star too

Hah,

I lived in TO and in Hamliton for a bit.. I ended up moving away from there after i started having breathing problems in the mornings

But to the question.. what I have done myself for running a game in a city that still exists. I downloaded Yahoo type maps or google earth and then added or changed parts of it to fit what I wanted. If a section of the city was all ruins, I would draw or add stuff over top of it.. or drew in a extra roads or more forrests.. stuff like that. So, lots of cut and paste. It worked out pretty good.

But as for running a game with Lazlo as the backdrop, I have not..

Regards

Lived on Kennedy and Eglinton for two years and hated every second of it, between the filthy air, filthy people and filthy streets I couldn't wait to get back to the country.

As for the game question, my buddy who GM's as well did the same thing, just used some Toronto maps off the net and seasoned to taste, I have never GM'd using Lazlo as a city in my game

Jeez..no wonder!
Ugh.. I'd be wanting out double-time living there
Nah..always lived near the core areas.

I really don't know what people have to complain about with Toronto as a whole.. after all, anything NORTH of Eglington, west of High-Park, East of Woodbine is pretty much NOT Toronto anyways :D

But hey...sour grapes and all...
*shrug*

Only thing I hate about this place is city council and city hall

been thinking about it for a while. another source for 'city type maps' besides road maps that show cities once in a while in a corner ... are the touristy magazines that highlight various activities about the area.

usually found in the Information Centers in various cities and communities. they often have maps of the larger sections.

take a look at Whistler. Its in British Columbia. the magazine we have has 4 pages of street maps. so it might be interesting. either way. good luck.

On the flip side of the coin, what gadgets and wonders do you put into Lazlo? TW transport tubes, pyramids, what?

Well... for starters there's a banzai millenium-tree in inside what was once the Sky-Dome / Rodgers Centre ;)
-Half the street-lights are 'Latern-light' crystals.
-D-portals connect from the mages' guild grounds (The U-of-T main campus) to various other area's across the globe (and off dimension), using stone arch-ways as the focal points.
-Water purification is non-stop process powered by one of the many ley-lines, using of course 'Purify food / drink' spell circle in the tanks. ;)
Other nifty tid-bits are here n' there; too numerous for me to list 'em all (mostly colour & flavour text stuff).

My condolences :) I grew up in Scarlem so I can deal with it...still, Orono had its charms when I was living there

It's funny I called it Scarlem when living there, luckily it was only 2 years, man you lived in Orono for awhile ? Now that is small town living, haven't been to Orono for a bit, other then taking my daughter to Orono fair. There isn't really anything else to do there, oh and going to the Co-Op to get dog food for my parents.

Ontario ... lets see ...

Hudson to St. Catherine's - at the foot of the escarpment. i remember Brock University was at the left end of the street and then up the hill. to the right, after a couple of corners was a busy street which went down a dip and a mall was on the left there .. about 2-3 miles away ... ? .. school was about 5 blocks away. saw my first 'walking stick' bug ... FREAKY to say the least

St. Catherine's to TO - corner of Mount Pleasant and Inglewood Drive ... our backyard was on the edge of some Ravine and park that went down. lots of space and stuff ... going to the right on Mount Pleasant and then along in the car by about 5-10 minute .. got us to some HUGE wild overgrown berry patch ... saw my first Praying Mantis in the wild there ... it was awesome .. and i had to point it out to the parents.

Ontario - could say some of it was interesting .. some was .. others weren't that great. go figure.
