So... for the vaguely curious who never bothered to look it up due to tremendous apathy on the subject, why exactly did the Macross mecha end up with incorrect names in 1e? Most of the art books Palladium would've had access to print the names in English...

I don't really care about that. I'd actually like this to get Stickied so people that aren't used to the change can use it for easy reference.

Seto - Basically it stems from the lack of real information they had combined with, as you well know, poor translation and watching the show. The show does refer to the excalibur squadrons and gladiator squadrons which shortly there after they showed the tomahawk and spartan respectively. Otherwise you never really hear the names of the destroids being said in teh show itself. They did however list the real names as alternate names so they at least had the names, they just didn't use them appropriately.

Jorel - actually the Stinger, Wasp and Phoenix Hawk LAMs were full 3 mode transformable mecha so they were quite literally the direct translation of the VF-1A/S and Super VF-1S respectively. I should have been more clear in the list about that for the non Battletech players.

So... guesswork, then. 's fine.

Dunno who would be unclear on the correct name for this stuff after all this time... after all, Harmony Gold went to using the correct names over 13 years ago. Palladium's been using the correct names throughout the Kickstarter and in their books for like 6 years at this point too.

People who don't have the new RPG books and didn't really follow it until the kickstarter popped on their radar as well as Battletech people who may only know certain mechs were named after Macross mecha but may not necessarily know the names of them in Macross.

Mike combined your 2 lists I think. If you want to add any changes let me know and I will.

No changes other than the LAMs are full 3 mode transformables not just gerwalk mode.

You guys forgot the 30 ton mech called the Valkyrie from battletech. It had slightly different lines from the wasp and stinger, but close enough to the VF series to get in trouble with hg.

It was a touch slower but packed a long range missile pack and medium laser and more armour.

hey Jaymz.
A nice little history lesson for those who love all the Mecha games.
Personally I would not count the Warhammer IIC though, as it is
a Clan Variant and does not look the same. In truth it looks much
closer to the new version of the Warhammer.

On that note, I like all of them regardless, because its just a cool Mech. :)

Actually the mini looks less like the classic one but the image in the 3055 TR is pretty similar. :D

Im old school Battletech. So couldn't say on the "classic" version.
Everything I have is from back before FASA sold it.
The IIC is a sweet mini, I have a few of them.
But the original Warhammer has been my favorite from the beginning.
I know it well as the Excalibur and Tomahawk as well. But I have to admit
it is hard to call it anything but Warhammer, when its been a favorite for 25 plus years, hehehehe

Ok, I have to get out of this topic haha. I could talk mecha all day.

Actually, in BattleMech mode, while the 1A was the Stinger, the 1J was the Wasp(wasp only had two antenna, not the 4 of the Phoenix Hawk LAM/VF-1S).

the Wasp has 4 antenna in its unseen version. the reseen version (with the new art) switched to 2.

Wasp = 4 antenna
Stinger = 1 antenna
Phoenix Hawk = 4 antenna, backpack jets.
Valkyrie = 4 antenna
