Omega Blaster Blast Radius?

Unread post by slappy »

I've got a question, how can the Omega Blaster (an energy weapon) have a blast radius? Does it have a ten-foot wide beam or does the energy somehow "splash" once it hits its target?

While it's not an official answer from Carmen nor is it perfect, I think I can help. Think of the beam as a cone of energy with it's narrowest point being the emitter in the chest cavity and the ten foot blast radius being the widest point at the end of the beam.

Perhaps it was also meant to simulate various anime and video game energy blasts that blossom into huge explosions upon hitting their target. :-?

It's a homage to the big beam weapon that the Guyver Bio-booster armors carry in their chests. :)

Considering that the simultaneous firing of 2 Omega-beams doubles the damage AND doubles the radius, would that qualify as some kind of synergy?

A lot of the time, bursts are inferior and do less damage than the sum of individual shots. But here, we have equal-to-sum damage and superior-to-sum surface area.

The surface area of a normal shot would be pi10squared or 100pi while the surface area of the double-shot would be pi20squared or 400pi, so you're effectively covering DOUBLE the sum of the surface area, which is pretty awesome.

On the downside, if you do want to build double-cannons, if you want to do upgrades like Ultra or Super or Omni or Mega I think you'd have to buy them twice, once for each individual cannon. Or I guess it'd be possibly to upgrade them in distinct ways, like boost the range in 1 for sniping or high-altitude bombing (can you fly?) and boost the range in the other for instant-destruction in close range while the other is a backup for lower-damage-capacity targets.
