Some of those combat spells seem like super-useful force multipliers, like those ones that give huge bonuses the attacks or defenses and which even change how natural 20s operate...
It's hard to believe so many casters would be so biased against these... perhaps it is mortal folly? Surely there are some gods wise enough to see how those would be super-useful for avoiding (or scoring a hit with) those crazy 1D6x100 rune weapons that gods tend to run around with?
I guess the question is who... any thoughts?
I was thinking perhaps Hermes since he seems open-minded and experiments with TW. I could even see him getting TW stuff designed to incorporate Combat Magic. He's already a speed-god so why not be even speedier? He could beat up Ares even worse that way.

Probably does...Hermes strikes me as the type who would gleefully hide a pipe wrench in a jacket he was swinging at Ares just to shut the guy up.

Hm... I just realized... if I want to build Combat Magic into a TW device... I don't think RUE covers what gems I would need for that. What do?

One might map combat spells to similar effects on RUE pg133-4, and see what's left. The only spells that seem that hard to place are Vampire Dance and maybe Syphon PPE from Object. I did a couple of levels worth before getting bored. Alternatively if you wanna play up the distasteful school of magic thing you could have them all use the same material with either some obvious downside such as being detectable by Psi-Stalkers at 5x the range, or has a severe stigma such as being made from unfused baby skulls.

Re: humble gods who might exploit the mercs combat magic
flourite is a crystal of "awareness and intuition, promoting clear, focused thought" so that'd do for wakefulness, quickstrike, and quickaction, and serpintine is about earthing energies, so it would probably work well enough for magelock? i'm tired, gimmie a break.

When in doubt, use omnipotent Zaayr scales.
