Dwarven Seamen

Unread post by Hendrik »

Hi there,

is there anything in the books that says or suggests that dwarves cannot be seamen. I did not see anything; while I might have missed something, it is not Middle Earth so why not, eh?

Kindest regards
Hendrik

Nothing I can see, though I'd say their density would make swimming difficult... it's just never referenced in the rules.

Nothing in High Seas says they can't be sailors, mariners, or pirates. Dwarf rowers/oarsmen would
be pretty durable. Keeping one foot in reality it would make sense their probably poor swimmers,
but going by game rulers they have no swimming restriction.

Who knows, they might have big hands.
Well considering they built troker i'm guessing the dwarfs weren't bad seamen.

They probably don't enjoy it as much and view dwarves that do as a bit odd, but nothing is stopping them.

Further to that, in the Troker description it says that the dwarves "deployed a vast fleet of warships" to besiege the city, so, yeah, definitely sailors.

Am I the only one picturing Dwarves being catapulted onto other ships?

I keep thinking of the old Puck from Alpha Flight hurling through the air with the greatest of ease....

Thank you all, especially for the references! It is what I thought makes sense for PFRPG (another item where it is nicely different from „common misconceptions“ ;-) !), but I lacked canon „evidence“.

Easily my favorite comic book character when I was a kid. I'd love to see Alpha Flight get their own movie.

How can we not give you due support and credit?

Small size would make better sailors on such crowded vessels. They might love the stone ships.

While dwarves are shorter, I don't know that I'd class them as small... they're short, sure, but they weigh about the same as humans, and so they're going to be wide.

You want good sailors? Goblins. Hobgoblins, too, but goblins, especially.

Half the size of humans, but just as strong.
Decent day vision (unlike kobolds).
Cobblers can cast Mend Wood.
