4-6 years for an apprentice wizard
A squireship for a knight....*shrugs* the books don't talk about that.
(commentary) But it depends on the age the squire is when (s)he is acquired, lasting till they are of age (where they can tell the knight to bleep off and head out on their own), or they have developed the skills and body to use the skills. Even then they don't get a nobility patent just because they have the skills. that has to be won or inherited.

The books are silent on these.
(commentary)
After the mage has made a name for him-/her-self and settled down in a place is when they start acquiring students.
Every Knight needs a squire...as soon as he/she can afford it.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.

I recall them mentioning a higher-than-wizard amount of years for diabolists and a lack of a years guideline for summoners.
